Title: Forum targeted by spammers
Post by: Ken Layton on March 26, 2006, 01:13:41 pm
I found this news item on another phpBB forum:  http://news.netcraft.com/

It's entitled, "Bot Authors Targeting phpBB forums software". It would appear that they are laying the groundwork for a big spamming operation. I strongly suggest moderators look closely at new usernames & profiles for these lowlifes and weed them out.

Thanks Ken - I've been trying to keep an eye on new users in light of that.

Well, one of the forums I usually frequent just got hit twice by these spammers and it's taken the whole forum down. Last night and the night before, www.16mmfilms.com discussion forums seem to have been attacked. I can't get to the foums and all I get now is "too many connections in line 48" error message.

Ack!  That's not pleasant.  I *think* we're safe due to not using phpBB and a front entry screening process, but who knows....

That's ominous. Any idea what system they use?

They are both phpBB forum software.
