Do LEDs get hot?

They do if you run more voltage than they are rated for. Of course, what usually happens is they shine really bright for about half a second and then poof, it's dead. It does get hot when this happens though.  :)

Well of course.... but then again, most things get hot if you run too much voltage through them... if not catch fire/spark/etc.

normal leds do not get hot unless you are pumping too much current through them, Infra-Red leds can warm up quite a bit in normal use even with the proper current
