What this means to Australians: We'll have faster air travel, less pollution as a result and cheaper airfares.
What this mean to Americans: Hmmm. Wonder if I'll be able to strap this baby to my Buick? ;)
-
It travelled more than 300 kilometres into the air before crashing ten minutes later, 400 kilometres down the range.
:lame:

Let's see the scramjet you built. ::)

Actually... I'm a junior Aerospace Engineering student... so you never know. O0

come back when you design something other than paper airplanes. ;)
-
:applaud: funny. me laugh.
-
neat.
So.... can I strap this thing to my Buick?
-
Sure, you can strap it to your Buick.
Just remember, scramjets have a minimum functional speed - you need to be supersonic before you can even light the thing off.
What size engine did that Buick have in it again? ;)

I think it's the eleventy brazillion cubic inch model..... I should be fine.

No replacement for displacement. :laugh2:

PLEASE WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE KANGAROOS!!?!!

PLEASE WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE KANGAROOS!!?!!
I'll buckle them up in the back of the Buick. They'll enjoy the ride.

did you know they did atomic tests around this area of australia in the 50s? did they think of the kangaroos then? huh? did they? poor lil fellas...

Minor point - it wasn't QUT (Queensland University of Technology), but rather UQ (University of Queensland), AFAIK.
Still pretty cool though.
-
good point. i still take some credit for having moved here though (",)

A supersonic jet engine known as a scramjet, which could dramatically reduce the time of air travel around the world, has been tested in South Australia's far north.
Seconds after the jet set off, there was a supersonic boom across the Woomera test range.
It travelled more than 300 kilometres into the air before crashing ten minutes later, 400 kilometres down the range.
Talk about some poorly written copy. I'm not sure if I want my travel time reduced by crashing and burning 400 kilometers after takeoff. :o
