Title: Incredible deal for me or not?
Post by: unclet on February 24, 2003, 02:43:37 pm
Asking around trying to find more arcade parts for my cabinet expansion project I ran into some people who will sell me ALL of the following arcade games for a total of $1000:

- Upright Pole Position (something wrong
- Street Fighter game (perfect playing condition)
- Street Fighter 2 game (perfect working condition)
- PacMan (monitor picture turns sideways sometimes)
- Pole Position Sit down cockpit (does not work but everything is there)
- Goin'dol (who knows what this is, but works perfectly).

Although the PacMan display has problems, I thought if I could get that one game working I could probably sell that one alone for over a $1000 and make all my money back, while keeping the others.  Anyway, I went to Ebay to see what a standup PacMan arcade game would get and I did not see any for sale.   I saw tons of MsPacMan instead.   Are the "PacMan" games in high demand because no one really sells them since they are hard to find, or is this game not really in high demand and I would not be able to recoup my money with this one game.

*cough* buy sell trade forum...

Please be advised that ebay prices for "collector" arcade cabinets are high.  2nd you'll only be able to fetch a grand for the pacman if it's in a dedicated cabinet (i.e. not a conversion), isn't a bootleg, and is "shopped"/restored... although there's a sucker born every minute...  you also have to go through the aggrevation of selling it/shipping it.

The street fighter 2 you maybe be able to get 200 bucks for... if that =P (maybe more/maybe less)

*shrug* just a few things to keep in mind...  where you located anyhow?

It could be a decent deal, or it could be a bunch of broken/abused gross conversions ...  which would make the difference.  i.e. I might have a mickey mantle baseball card, but if it looks like it went through the wash 20 times it aint worth squat.

good luck!

In this hobby, you could easily spend that much building a machine that looks just like a Street Fighter Two cabinet.  So you'd be ahead there if you decided to MAME one of them.

That would be 6 cabinets, 6 sets of controls and parts to pilfer, and sounds like at least 3 working arcade monitors.  That puts you well on the way to a killer leaf-switch MAME cab.

If you could restore the Pac-Man to perfect you would be able to fetch a grand for it
Looks like they're going for right around $900 right now for nice Pacs.

If you're a collector at all, the nostalgia of having one is worth more than the hassle of selling it on ebay.

If I had room, I'd go for it.  Restore the Pac-Man, and MAME at least one of the Pole Positions and one of the SFs.  But that's just me.

I'd have to agree with the others...  I own an original PacMan, paid $450 for it, boy did I get lucky.  I  love it and can't imagine parting with it even though it only plays one gaem.  :)

I spent a grand building up my MAME cabinet, with the biggest chunk of my time spent in building the actual cab itself, but the PacMan is still my fave...

Keep the Pac and please don't MAME it, keep a Pole, and then MAME the rest imho....

Dont worry, I already own a 4-player Mame cabinet so I do not plan on gutting anything out, with the exception of the cockpit Pole Position game ... maybe.  I just think I can not ignore the good cost of all of these games.....

I will let you know what happens
