Title: WTB:One or two of Santoro's tokens
Post by: shardian on March 24, 2006, 09:23:32 am
Hi all,

Would anyone be willing to part with a coin or two from their MAME or BYOAC collection of tokens? I asked santoro, but he can't do sample packs any more. I would like to check them out first before I plop down the big bucks on a set of coins.   Any design would be fine.

Thanks,
shardian

Funny you say that...I'd like a sample of each coin he's done so far, but only because I want to display them.  They're pur-ty.

If there is more interest I'll purchase a pack and split it up for us.  It will cost us more per coin, but that way everyone can get a few.  I don't think santoro will mind?

For anyone that wants them at any time, I'll send you a MAME, 2004, and 2005 token (3 brass tokens) for $2.00 (through paypal).

PM me if you want my paypal address.
PM me if you more than one of each.

shardian just get a CEC token to use as a test...

they are the same size as Santoros tokens then once you get them to work you can go with a full order

I had originally asked that people not sell onesie-twosies for fear it would eliminate demand for the hundred lots.  I also wanted to be able to sell samplers later.

That said, I have since decided the samplers are too much of a pain in the arse to deal with, and the demand for large lots has subsided.  I will therefore 'rescind' the request.  I will ask for the same courtesy when we do the 2006 tokens soon however.

Also, I will soon be selling 'Collector's Grade' single tokens...that is tokens taken right from the shipment, with tweezers, and carefully placed in an airtight display holder.  These will be more for collectors than those looking for a token to test their mechs on.  I will probably charge 5$ each.  If they don't sell at that price, I will probably just drop it.  Anything less and its a lot of hassle for negligible profit margin.

I'm no expert by any means, but don't collector grade coins (perhaps tokens are different) also get hit in the die more than once, to help enhance the lines of the stamping?  Would you be doing that also, or more just hand picking / sealing the coins up so they don't get damaged?

No, not to imply it's mint condition or anything.  If the words 'collector's grade' imply something else, I need to use different words.  I was unaware that was a term used in coin lingo.  (numismatics?)
