My visual pinball "beta" expired a while ago, and I finally put a "no-expirie" version in by copying the .exe over...
This worked great...for a few days... ???
Now the mighty Windows XP (SP 2, etc...) is asking for the visualpinball.msi installation file...I can't seem to find it!
I hate to say this, BUT... I'm using Mamewah as a frontend, with Howard's wrapper...
Looking for answers... (tried searching these boards, but kept getting no results)
Thanks!

First off allow you to digitally slap you across the face for mentioning the front end. As usual it HAS NOTHING to do with the problem.
The msi installer is just that, the msi installer for vp.
Everytime you have to do something major to the registry (or a windows upgrade has to do something major to the regsitry) you have to re-install visual pinball. It's as simple as that. If vp is magically failing on it's own then your windows install is probably corrupted and you need to re-install. Also if you reset your file associations it can also cause failure. All the vp luanchers/wrappers out there require the "play" function in explorer to work in vp and that's why it's asking for the installer. It needs to install the shell extension that makes that work.
I would reccomend trying to reinstall first though. And remember vp is very registry dependant, so you can't just move the install folder around and other stuff you can normally do with other front-ends. Why in the world black decided to get fancy when he designed the sim is beyond me. The windows registry is almost always more trouble than it's worth. Case in point really.
