Alright this is kind of strange. For some reason my cab starts to play itself for no reason. I always have a diffrent game running with no credits inserted and the demo sounds dip off.
About once everyother day it will somehow register a credit and start playing the game. First it was robocop then robocop2 and now bubble bobble. I don't get it. This has never happed before.
Does anyone know why this would happen ?
Thanks, Ron

Obviously your cabinet is bored. You should play with it more often.
-
Have you seen the characters actually move somewhat intelligently? THe controllers rock? Buttons pressed? Or is it simply just that credits are getting inserted? As that could simply be a short somewhere. Maybe your keyboard encoder is acting up as well.
-
Oh, that was me.
Sorry to spook you.
-
Xiaou2 , The game will just automaticly start up. The charictures dont move it just stands still untill the timer runs out. i wouldn't think it would be the encoder, Its an i pac that only a couple weeks old. I hope it's not a short. I don't want to burn my house down :(

open a program like Notepad... and let it sit. See if characters are depressed. Such as 5,1, ect. id say theres a short, faulty switch, or ipac trouble.
try replacing the micros with new ones. maybe they are the blame.
ive seen a ghost only once in 32 years of life, and it was a very rare event. even rare-er is a ghost that can actually interact with the physical world (poltergeist). And if it was one of them, youd see the buttons actually depress.

Put it on eBay, say its haunted and you will probably get a forune for it like that phantom NES.
-
Xiaou2, I will try the note pad thing. As for a short is there a way to test for one ?
-
You could hook a multimeter up to the switches and test. Test with the continuity option, if you have one, or use resistance, set to the lowest Ohm rating. Connect the ground terminal to your negative probe, and then touch the positive terminal of each switch with the positive probe, without pressing any buttons. If you get a tone, or the resistance changes from infinite to a low amount, you have a short.
Notepad is easier though...
:D

Yep!! Make sure you use poor quality photos too!

My cab keeps playing itself
Ignore it. It's only a problem if it starts doing it at the dinner table.

My brother's friend once found a bizarre bug/egg in Super Mario 3 that gave him unlimited P-Wings in his map inventory. He found it completely by accident. I have never tried to discover whether it was documented somewhere online. Ought to check on that.
He actually did manage to run out of lives, though. And he was never able to duplicate whatever he did to get all those P-Wings.
Saw it with my own eyes. Very much a :o moment.
Must have been a ghost. Yeah.

I have busted the ghost. The ground and com wires running to the coin door were to short so i spliced them together and covered them with electric tape.
I started to wander if this might be the problem, so i cut them out and ran new wires. The problem disappeared.
I guess i won't have to call the ghost busters afterall :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

LOLLERSKATES
This has to be the funniest thread I have read in a long while. Fantastic read.
Glad you got your problem sorted out.

Have you took a picture of it?? My Galaga tabletop registers loads of credits, and goes a bit loopy if I take a flash photo of it with the lid up.
(this is the truth, just in case...)
-
I'm no expert, but if there are chips with no stickers over the window the flash could mess them up. I wouldn't take anymore pictures or even leave it open for long, without covering up the chips. Too much light can erase the chips.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
-
Oh, cab. I thought you said cat. That'd be hard, what with the claws and all.

Actually I've know about that site for a long time. Since before I was into arcade building. I should check and see if there are any acrade tips on there.
