Title: 4P overlay. Sent to Mamemarquees
Post by: mccoy178 on March 23, 2006, 03:47:27 pm
EDIT:  I can appreciate the fact that there probably aren't many OSU fans here.  What I am asking for is just an opinion on the layout and any photoshop ideas that I can implement to help.  I am using red translucent leaf switches.

Okay, I feel pretty good about this one.  This is my first stab at this stuff, so I'm a cut and paste king.  Outside of asking Mark very nicely to do some work on my photo's, I'm pretty much set with this layout.    I'm going to give it a shot on my own.  I've come this far.

It covers all of the Saturday specialties that are important to me.  The man in the middle is Woody Hayes, the legendary coach.  The four guys around him and the one at the bottom of the trackball are all of the heisman trophy winners.

The band is a huge thing at OSU, so that is why they are faded in on the right and when they dot the "I" of script OHIO, the drum major dips back like the one on top of player2's controls.  Brutus is the mascot and I love the picture of him with the flag.

Current coach Tressel sings the alma mater after every game and that is what he and the team is doing in the background on the left.  I used Ohio Script for my lettering.  I used Pixel Huggers artwork for the Mame logo and Byoac.  Thought those were a necessity. Wink

The white square around the joysticks and the leaf in the middle are the buckeye leaf's players get for their helmets, so again, an OSU reference Buckeye fans would get.

I did vectorize the Golden Tee Arrows myself and the shot chart.  I used the tutorial in this section and it was excellent!  I also vectorized the joystick arrows, but they were easy.  The only other creative thing I did was grab that Ohio Script off the web, as it is perfect for OSU.

Again, I plan on asking Mark to help blend in the photos.  I guess I am looking for opinions on the fading and the arrangement of the work, just to see what you guys think.  How is it for a first time?

That's pretty much awesome, and very personalized to boot.  Looks like you put a lot of time and effort into it.

Though in the end, I have to say it's completely and utterly terrible.  After all, I am a Penn State fan.  ;)

EDIT:  Out of curiousity, what are the dimensions of your CP?  I'm looking to have pretty much everything you do, and I'm not sure how to space things out.  I'm going for the 7th button (low and left) for 1p and 2p, but I'm having a heck of a time with the trackball placement at 48" wide.

It is 48x18.  Golden Tee is my favorite all time game, so it got the drivers seat.  I'm a little worried about the spinners being in the way, but I think I'll be fine.  I have .pdf's of a couple different four player layouts with that dimension of 48x18.

Updated pic.  Added some effects and cleaned up a little.  Do you like the Silver or Red title?

With all that red, I'd go with the silver lettering of "The Varisity Club".  Oh, and I like it without Brutus, personally.

I lightened Brutus down to 25% from 50%.  I also changed the title to Silver.

Made the title tricolor.

Last update for the night.  I brought out the coach on the left and the drum major on the right.  I also made new button boxes that are rounded.  I brought out the logos further as well.  I didn't really see the need to not have any color in this thing.  (I know there's enough red to make most sick, I meant the fading of everything).

Last one I think.  I now have all the parts in and I'm pretty happy with the looks.  Please give any last suggestions, as I plan on sending this to Scott on Wednesday.

Might I ask why you have turn left and right buttons?  It seems like P1's top left and top right would work perfect for that.  You're already doubling up on buttons for flyby and options and such, so why only have those two separate?

I have those because they are mouse buttons anyways.  The oldschool GT had those.  The flyby and backspin buttons weren't introduced until the Fore series that we don't have yet.  I found out that my buddies liked the turn left/right buttons.  Very simple, especially after alcohol consumption.
