Title: Table saw question
Post by: sodapopinski on March 23, 2006, 09:21:46 am
Even though i'm a carpeneter i have a quick question. How do you make a rip over 45 degrees when your table saw only tilts that far. a jig?

Yeah,.... I would.... Angle plate on the table surface should do the job, but it is pushing the limits a bit. Probably also needs two people on hand to do it if it's a large piece.

Subtract the angle you want from 90 degrees, tilt the blade that much, and flip your board over so you are cutting the inverse. For example, if you need a 60 degree angle, set the blade at 30 degrees and flip the board around.

I'd recommend practicing on a scrap piece or two, I know it took me a few tries to get it right.

Depending on the size of the wood.  You can turn the wood 90 degrees and run it through vertical.  If it's a giant piece it will probably be too hard to manage that way though.

Hmmm, now that I think about it, you asked about ripping.  I guess that would mean you are trying to cut a piece in two.  I would still have to say cut in two and then try to run vertical.

thanks Nannuu,, your idea will work. I suppose I can angle it on end, then rip to size.
