I have a friend who has a Midnight Resistance (Data East 1990) its missing the joysticks & other items did this game not use the 49 way happ, i was wondering if anyone knew

Midnight resitance used 8-way rotary joysticks, but I don't know what type, haven't seen one since it came out years ago (played it at uni a bit end of 80's early 90's).

Midnight Resistance actually shipped with the Data East/Wico rotary joysticks. They do look very similar to the SNK LS-30s though. The main differences were that the Wico models used leaf switches and a smooth yellow cylindrical knob while the LS-30s used microswitches and a hex shaped yellow cylindrical knob. Both models will plug right in and work fine with Midnight Resistance. Here's a pic of both models. Data East/Wico model is on the right..

The Happ Mechanical Rotary sticks can also be used. They won't be "original", but they'll play just fine, and they're easier to come by.
