Title: MameWah Question
Post by: Lucky13 on March 18, 2006, 12:25:56 pm
Hello,
Yes I am a MameWah newbie.  I've downloaded all these layouts but am having a hard time figuring out how to select those layouts.  I can go in MameWah and select the different platforms but I'm not sure how to get it to select the different layouts.
Thanks
Nate

What version of mamewah are you using?  1.61 or .62?  What exactly are you trying to due.  The question if vague right now.

Right now I'm using MameWah 1.61.  I'm seeing all these differetn layouts on the "screenshots" section of the MameWah site here http://mamewah.mameworld.net/screenshots.htm (http://mamewah.mameworld.net/screenshots.htm) and I thought it would be possible for every differetn console to have a different layout.  Right now I'm just able to view whatever came with MameWah and was wondering how to use one of these nicer looking layouts that you can get.
Hope thats more specific.
Nate

I don't mean to be rude, but this question has been answered about eleventy brazillian times.  Did you try a search?  You did but nothing matched you say? ::)  Okay, here is a quick tutorial.

You need to place your layouts in the layouts folder in mamewah.  All in the same folder.  You should rename them whatever you like, but a good bit of advice would be to call them by their emulators names.  i.e. mame.lay, mame.main      nes.lay, nes.main (I can't remember what the jpeg extension is, I believe it is .main, maybe not, but that should be obvious if you look at one of the layouts you downloaded.
So once you have your layouts(.lay) and backgrounds(.main) together in the same folder in the layout folder, use the layout editor in the mamewah folder.  Go to open, find the folder they are in, open up a .lay, next, under one of the other menu tabs at the top, select background image and find the matching .main.  Once the background shows up, you can edit font sizes of do a lot of other things.  Make sure you save the results and viola, you have a layout ready to go.  Make sure you tell the mamewah.cfg or mamewah.ini(I can't remember which, but it should be obvious) where to find the layouts at.  Hopefully I just saved you five minutes of research.  ;)  Also, next time, RTFM.  Thank you, who's next?!

If you are starting relatively new with MameWah, I would highly recommend using the v1.62b9 .... I believe it makes everything a bit easier to configure.

Since everyone is going to read this anyways, is there any reason I should switch to 1.62, now that I have had 1.61 configured for months?

I am a big fan of it because it is the latest addition and you can do a few more things.  To really get into what the big deal is, go to www.mameworld.info (http://www.mameworld.info) and click on the mamewah forum.  You can find all that is new if you look.  (That means actually putting some time into reading for the noobs out there) ;)

I just read this thread again.  Almost made myself sick.  I sound like the old timers around here.  Bah. :P  Once you get used to 1.61 noob, give 1.62 a shot.  I personally used 1.62 because I use a beta brite sign on my cabinet and the name of the emulator changes on the sign when I switch within mamewah.  It wouldn't do that until after I played a game in 1.61.  But that is just one main reason for me.

1.62 is nice for PC Games too. Many of them wouldn't load correctly in 1.61, but do so in 1.62.

I'm also liking game specific ini files too. I can reprogram the IPAC for each specific game, rather than just for specific systems like in 1.61
