OK, this will probably be the most stupid question of today, but what the heck:
I've wired up my Suzo 5.72cm (sorry, metric sizes used here ;) ) trackball through an old Optipac and it works beautifully in Windows.
Now, how do I get it to be selected in games like Marble Madness, Centipede and Missile Command ? It is still using my joysticks now.
I'm using plain command line MAME with Mamewah as front-end. I've looked for the settings but can't figure out how to actualy select the mouse (which this is for the system I guess ?).
This has to be a no-brainer but I'm just overlooking it I guess.....and I want to play Marble Madness the way it's supposed to be for the very first time in my life :):):)

Try looking at your MAME.ini file in your MAME directory. In this .ini file, look for a setting that looks like...
mouse=0
Try changing it to...
mouse=1
Not sure, but maybe Mamewah also has this option under the Mamewah.ini file. Look for it in the Mamewah directory. I really can't remember the Mamewah .ini file on this. I don't think it has this (I think it relies on your MAME.ini file), but it's worth a look-see.
I hope this helps you.

It's in the mame.ini in your main mame folder. Come on rookie ;D:
### Input device options ###
mouse 1
joystick 1
lightgun 0
dual_lightgun 0
offscreen_reload 0
steadykey 0

OK, thanks guys... I'll try it, play a few games and then go hang myself in shame ;D ;D ;D

Also, if you dont have a mame.ini ( i didnt) you have to type mame cc at a command prompt. I believe that is the right syntax, if not I am certain someone will correct me :)

I think your trackball is defective. FedEx it to me and I'll take a look.

Haha, well you might be right....I'm currently getting it only to move in one direction !?!? Think the wires make bad contacts with the connectors, so should be easy to solve, but no time now....
Anyway, Mame now does recognize it and the Marble responds to it, although not much use in one direction....
