Title: projection...
Post by: cieje on March 14, 2006, 01:55:28 pm
I've been thinking about starting a new project; possible projection.

I'm thinking of building a free-standing 4 player console that feeds into an IPAC-4  with either an xbox (modded - running xbmc, mame(d)ox, etc) or maybe a computer running mamewah. Then having either output to a projector.  The idea is the unit, although probably 150+ lbs would be portable - can just project onto any white wall, or even just output to a tv if needed.

does anybody know of any examples of using a projector as an arcade/console emulation viewing device? what problems would there be, what resolutions etc should I pay attention to - Ideally I'd want to be able to get the cheapest projector possible, maybe something used. I want to emulate 2600-snes and arcade games, have 4 players, be able to play mp3s (jukebox-like) - and if the video quality is good enough watch dvd movies.

You should be able to use an LCD or DLP projector with no problems, either via VGA,  DVI, RGBHV, Component, or S-Video Input.   Just like LCD Monitors, you may need to enable stretch, and run at a resolution the projector works with.   I personally have tested MAME on an LCD projector once, and it looked good.
