When I start games in Mame via MameWah, some of the games are rotated 90 degrees. How can I gurantee that all games start up/down rather than turned 90 degrees.
Here are some options I found in the Mame text, but there is no description as to which one does what ....
-[no]norotate
-[no]ror
-[no]rol
-[no]autoror
-[no]autorol
-[no]flipx
-[no]flipy
-
Here is what that section of my mame.ini says:
### Mame CORE video options ###
norotate 0
ror 0
rol 0
autoror 0
autorol 0
flipx 0
flipy 0
debug_resolution auto
gamma 1.000000
brightness 1.000000
pause_brightness 0.650000

How about starting of the game "005" and telling me if it is sideways for you ...
I set the "norotate = 1" and a "disclaimer" appears "non-sideways" now ..... which is good ..... however the actual game display is still sideways....
-
What are your setting for
ror
rol
autorol
autoror
flipx
flipy
(All should be zero).
Also - All should be zero in both your mame.ini and gamename.ini (005.ini) files.
-
When all those values were zero in my "mame.ini" then the disclaimer text (and also the mame configuration menu text ... when I hit TAB in the game) were tilted sideways and the 005 game was tilted sideways as well.
When I added "-norotate 1" then the disclaimer and menu text were straight up/down .... which is nice, but the 005 was then tilted sideways in the other direction.
Just to make myself clear ...... most games are perfectly fine ..... meaning they display striaght up/down like I want them, but I noticed some games (ie: 005 is one of them) which start off sideways. I have not checked many other games yet, so I am not sure if there are more .... but I would expect there to be some more.

What type of monitor? (I.e. is it an arcade monitor and maybe you have the inputs swapped, or a rotated monitor, and you have should be using rol=1 to rotate the games to vertical?) Wouldn't make some work and others not, though . . .

What version of MAME? Are horizontal games fine and vertical games rotated, or are most horizontal and vertical games fine, and 005 and some others are messed up?
-
I am currently setting up MameWah1.62b9, so I am strictly on my computer trying to set everything up. I have a Samsung flatscreen. I am using command line Mamev103
The 005 game is just one I noticed was sideways since it was listed near the top of the list.
Maybe you can provide me with a list of some horizontal games and some vertical games to check and I will look to see if the horizontal ones are sideways.

Vertical -
PacMan
Galaga
Galaxian
Top Gunner
Arkanoid
Horizontal -
OutRun
88 Games
Return of the Jedi
88 games
1944
etc.

I'll bet it's an intel chipset.
I had to install a new video card. Doesn't seem to be able to be resolved through software switches.
-
P.S. I love your jukebox software!
-
Vertical -
PacMan = sideways (not displaying how I want it)
Galaga = sideways (not displaying how I want it)
Galaxian = sideways (not displaying how I want it)
Top Gunner = displays up/down normal
Arkanoid = sideways (not displaying how I want it)
Horizontal -
OutRun = displays up/down normal
88 Games = displays up/down normal
Return of the Jedi = displays up/down normal
1944 = displays up/down normal
How can I rotate the games which do not display properly for me ..... ?

nice to hear someone is actually appreciating my JUkebox software. I made it to my specifications and I believe it to be quite solid.....
thanks for the nice words ....

Okay, there's some progress.
Except for Top Gunner, it looks like you are having a problem with all vertical games.
And I noticed in the initial thread you said:
When I start games in Mame via MameWah
Does this mean that PacMan appears normal when you launch it from the commandline?
If not, then you need to look at autorol or autoror options in your C:\mame\mame.ini file (and set them to 0).
If it only happens in MAMEwah, you need to look at your MAMEwah mame.ini file settings, but I don't use it enough to advise you.

MameWAH will have no effect on how the game is displayed UNLESS you are specifically supplying some sort of video manipulation via the commandline. I am sure this is not the case and it would be across-the-board, for all games, unless you specify it on a per game basis which I am sure you are not.

I am not using MameWah for these tests .... I am executing the game via the command prompt (ie: mame galaga) and it still results in the game being sideways.
My INI file is listed below. I believe everything you indicate I should have set to "0" is already set to "0".
NOTE: I am using multiple ROM paths .... but I can not see why this would matter...

Uncle T
Are you using an onboard intel Video card?
-
Here's my suggestion, for what it's worth
- Right click on your empty desktop and select 'properties'
- Select the 'settings tab'
- Press the 'advanced' button
- I'm guessing you'll have a tab that says 'intel' something. Click it.
- Click 'graphical properties'
- Click 'display settings'
- Uncheck 'enable rotation'
- Click 'hot keys'
- Uncheck 'enable hot keys'
This was my problem when this happened to me.
-
MY PROBLEM IS SOLVED !!!!
Yes I had an onboard Intel chip .... thanks for telling me the exact steps to fix the problem ....
I guess the problem is that the Intel chips have those settings default to "ON" rather than "OFF" ?

Awesome... this needs to be in a FAQ or more readily available. I ended up getting a different vid card. But, in this hobby, whats another 80 bucks?
