I recently ordered some stuff from Happ and received it today. All I have to say is their joysticks are the biggest pieces of sh!t I have ever seen. I guess I'm just used *real* arcade controls. The trackball and spinner I ordered were both nice, though.
-
What kind of joystick did you get from Happs they have a few different models?
-
The "Ultimate" 4- and 8- ways. Ultimate crap, that is.
-
Yeah I have a local distributor that carries Happs and I bought a few of those before picking up a Happs Competition which I like much better.
-
I have purchased several cheap 8-way balltops on ebay (they are manufactured in some 3rd world country by a fetus chained to a machine stamping out crude parts all day) and they are less than 1/2 the price of Happ and 1000 times better. I guess I will have to cut my own restrictor plate and make them 4-way. Lesson learned

there's your problem.
Try a Super or a Competitiion. Those Ultimates are horrible IMO.

Toss up a quick review in the Hardware Review sub so others don't get stuck with them.

Do the supers or competitions have a metal base? I bet my 5-year old could break these ultimates in one game of Pac-Man.

I may do that, I need to mount one and take some photos/video of them being used (and breaking off in my hand).

Yeah, Ultimates are well known to suck. Several reviews are out there about this. Notably, OSCAR controls did a great review back in 2000 or so, and there was a big folow up discussion on this site. Retroblast did a joystick round-up more recently. Both concluded the ultimates sucked. Both review are worth a read. Oscar's review only evaluated the P360, super, comp, and ultimate. Retroblast reviewed about every joystick out there (some were left out, but all the Happs were reviewed and most of the more popular joysticks from other manufacturers.
check them out

http://www.oscarcontrols.com/joycompare/joyreview2.shtml (http://www.oscarcontrols.com/joycompare/joyreview2.shtml)
you'll have to search the board for the extended discussion on OSCAR's review.
Don't bother posting your own review. The ultimates have been beaten to death and anyone wanting to buy a joystick need only serach from joystick reviews to avoid that mistake. The ultimate is not the ultimate

Well I ordered them for a customer, these wouldn't have been my choice if it was for me. Also the colors of the sticks do not match the buttons, trackballs, and T-molding that Happ sells. Most of them are close, but the yellow is really off.
Are the ultimarc ones better?

That's like comparing apples and oranges...... You can't compare them... The Ultimarc Joysticks are an arcade joysick... The Happ Ultimates are something that you ultimately use to prop a door open.

Cool that's what I thought.
