Title: How do I remove zip files from the WinXP folder view list?
Post by: Tiger-Heli on March 08, 2006, 02:45:16 pm
See attached screenshot.  The .zip files on the left are in the AVG folder.  I just want to see the folders, not the individual files (and if I click the files it shows me the contents).

I searched for an hour on Google and couldn't find anything?

Did XP always do this?  Annoying as heck!!!

Man - this board rocks!!! Can't believe that came back in ten minutes.

I searched
"no .zip files in folder tree"
"normal .zip file WinXP Explorer"
"zip file preview in WinXP Explorer"
"don't show zip file contents in Explorer"

And probably 40 or 50 links with no good results.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

I was just about to post 'uh...go to google' (then I saw who posted it and decided you didn't deserve the crap :) ).  I think the best thing would be 'remove zip from explorer'.  And it's on annoyances.org also. :)

Here is how to turn off the built in ZIP support and then use a real tool like WinRAR or WinZip..

How do I turn off Windows XP's built-in support for ZIP files?
