Title: Coin Counters
Post by: MYX on March 08, 2006, 10:43:11 am
Hey all,
On monday I went out to the storefront for Playpinball.net to pick up an backglass for my black Knight pin. While I was there, I noticed that his tv stand was a dynamo cab that was cut in half (joystick and buttons still intact). Anyway, just on a whim, I asked him if he would sell the coin door off of it. He said that if I pulled it out myself I could have it for $15. It is an over/under and in great shape. (dirty as hell though). I got it home and all cleaned up for my cab.

To the point, I was looking at the coin counter and it is up in like 30,000. Can these be reset back to 0?
It seems solid on all sides and no visible way to reset it. I don't necessariy need a counter, but it could be fun just to know how many games my cab has played.

In general, the coin counting meters used on coin-operated equipment are not resetable. This was done deliberately to keep the route employees/coin collectors honest.

However if you want a resetable meter many of the counting meter manufacturers offer a resetable version counterpart. Contact the meter manufacturer (there are several and some have been gobbled up by conglomerates) and give them the existing meter part/model number off of it. Then they can cross reference it to their resetable counterpart.

I HAD a coin counter in my cabinet, and wanted to reset it, so I took it apart to reset the wheels... yeah, big mistake.  ::)

I have some of these with no (or only 1) count on them, I will be happy to sell them for a few dollars each if anyone is interested.

when I connect this, do I put in a circuit after the coin door switch?

yeah my coin door has a counter on it...

what exactly does it connect to in order to function properly...?

and i had one of those analogue speedometers for my bike when i was a kid...i ended up taking it apart enough so i could roll the 1/10 of a mile wheel of the odometer against a wall...that sped up the process of rolling it back over to zero by a heck of a lot...i think i had it rolled over after a thousand miles on it in only half an hour or something...

..you should've used a drill with a rubber roller of some type in it. That would have been MUCH faster. :)

Personally, I think it is one of the freakiest avitars on the forums. It is like a bad acid trip.

But back to the point, No I do not know how they work. Would be interested to know though.

No, just find it annoying as ---not a PG-13 thing to say, mister---

Thankfully, you don't have much to say that's important, so it's easy to pass over your responses and rid myself of that dumbass avatar.

Oh, and here's hoping some kid doesn't have an epileptic seizure and decide to sue because there was no warning that dumbass avs could cause them.

What happened?  I did this once, but I never ran it again.  Looked like it would do okay, though.

What about Jesus with 3D glasses.
Could be offensive to people with one eye and can't see 3D.

Then they haven't listened to the link.

If they have and they're offended, I work on the theory that they didn't matter anyway. ;)

Maybe it just has to do with my level of ineptitude, and I don't quite remember what the problem was, but I was never able to get the gears on the wheels lined back up with the part that would advance the counter.  It was a Coin Controls counter... I have all the parts somewhere if anybody has any assembly information.

I actually though it was well done. I liked it. But then again, I'm down wit Jesus. I felt like they could have added more stories.

awwww crap. Just got religious. I said the J word.

So... What actually makes the coin counter advance. I just see 1 wire. PFM?
Title: Re: Coin Counters
Post by: fixedpigs on March 16, 2006, 12:27:12 am
when i first got my coin door...i hooked the coin counter wires to some power...each time it got a jolt it would advance a number...so i would assume that it just goes inline with the coin credit switch...

that is just an assumption though...as i would like to know the official correct way of doing it...

and myx...mine has two wires...a positive and a negative...maybe you are missing a wire...

you know, you could just print of a label with the original numbers on it, preserve that history (even if the guy who chopped the dynamo cab in half didn't!)

Could you elaborate on this diagram a little?  What are the diodes?  Where is the counter drawing power from?

Thank you.

The counter draws power from your ipac/keywiz/whatever/USB/etc.

And what are the diodes?  If I just wire the positive wire on the coin counter to the ground on the credit switch, and the ground on the counter to the ground on the ipac, I get nothing :(
