ok i am wondering if anybody has changed this 4 board donkey kong to a jamma compatible board? im thinking i could do it by soldering in new wires where the connector areas are unless someone knows where i can get connectors for this?
-
Don't solder wires to the board! Make an adaptor instead.
-
well does naybody know where i can get the connectors for the board?

That would be a lot easier if he had the two board version with the edge connector. The 4 board set uses the "rainbow" ribbon and the like.

Surely all you need is the pinout of your original pcb and a jamma connector, before the jamma connector came about we had our own interface system(this was back in the mid 80's),its really simple if pin 3 on your original board is 5v then it goes to pins 3&4 on the jamma(if my memory serves me correct).maybe try www.jammaboards.com

i seen a pinout of the board and the only thing i dont understand is the +24v input...where owuld i get that from?
-
dont understand why that board needs a 24v input unless it has onboard voltage regulators or some sort of motor output-how old is this board?
-
lol its a cocktail donkey kong 4 board...so no motors should be on their...
-
The 24v is for the coin counter Do not solder any wires directly on the pcb, you will greatly increase the chance of destroying the board..
-
we dont have 12v coin counters in the u.k,did not know you used 24v in the states.anyway kjoel0123 is right dont solder onto your board use another edge connector,so you will need a jamma male,a jamma female and whatever size connector for the donkey kong, and lots of wires.

Since I guess it was overlooked the first time, I'll reiterate. The 4 board (cocktail) version of Donkey Kong does not have any edge connectors. He will have to try and find either a complete harness or the plugs that fit in the connectors on the boards and make his own. Then he can connect it to a fingerboard.
-
witchboard is correct ther is NO edge connector on this 4 board Donkey kong pcb. Does anybody know whwere i can get these connectors?? or a harness.
-
Sorry dude. I wish I could help, but I've not seen any connectors like that, nor have I honestly seen a cocktail harness available for sale. I presume that since you don't have a harness or any way to hook it up, you don't even know if the game works. Maybe you should keep an eye out for a two board version that has the edge connector then sell off your 4-board as untested. ???

I'm working on one now myself. I have used connectors from older computers i had lying around. The connectors are the same size and fit in nicely.Similar(if not the same) to the audio connector from the cdrom to an audio card. Though Not with the cheapy thin wire. I had to use multiple 4 and 5 pin connectors. The only thing i need are single pin connectors i can put to misc. pins where my connectors didn't have enough. I'm thinking the connectors used on some systems from the power and reset switch to the motherboard uses a single female connector to each pin.
Not sure if it will come out working or not, but i'm close to finding out. I just got a Jamma adaptor board Sat. for it. Just waiting to get the remaining connectors needed.
I'm sure there are places that has them. I'm just using what i already had.

here's a link to the type of connector I am using. Though these are a bit longer than needed they still make a good connection. I'm thumbing through the sight now looking at their selection to see if there are shorter ones. The link is to stats for a 9 pin connector(though a 4 pin is pictured).
