I have an Asus motherboard model - A7N266-VM I am trying to get setup for a new MAME cabinet.
I have no RAM for it and would like to get 2x512MB for a total of 1G
If anyone has memory available that fits the following specs or knows of a good place to purchase, please let me know. Thanks!
184 PIN DDR SDRAM DIMMS non-ECC PC200 / 266 DIMMS
266mghz PC 2100 or 200mhz PC 1600
2x512MB
Single or Double Sided
SPD ok
DIMMS with more than 18 chips are not supported

I don't think it has to be that exact memory.
Usually, you can get faster memory than they state. Just not slower.
So PC3200 (DDR 400) should work fine. And is available everywhere.
...And the Crucial website backs me up...

The only problem might be the chip count thing. I don't know of any easy way to know memory density without physically inspecting the memory modules.
Personally, I've never seen any compatibility issues with chip density on DDR systems. I've seen it a lot on systems that use PC100 SDRAM though.
I'd cross my fingers and go with a cheap name-brand 1GB (2x512) kit from pricegrabber. Corsair and Mushkin make good stuff...

Assuming faster modern DIMMs work for you (and they probably don't or you wouldn't have posted), Circuit City is selling 512MB Viking PC3200/DDR 400 DIMMs for $25 this week (after two stacked rebates).

According to Crucial, faster memory will work. I've never seen Crucial be wrong.

Yes, they will. Krick is 100% correct. The DDR spec is the same, regardless of speed. You can put in some PC3200 in that motherboard and it will simply run at PC2100 if that is the only speed the motherboard supports.
I've personally put PC3200 in an A7N motherboard, and it works just fine.

It is possible that a motherboard bios will refuse to use faster memory if it insists on the SPD settings telling it what to do. A lot of fast memory only has SPD info for DDR400 settings.
Of course, I'd assume that an ASUS bios wouldn't do something dumb like that. PC Chips or Shuttle on the other hand...
