Short and sweet, what the heck do you all mean whan you use lol?
After a year of reading these threads I thought I would figure it out but it turns out I am a idiot. SO WHAT THE HELL DOES IT MEAN?
-
It means "Land-O-Lakes". Pretty much when you see that you're supposed to go to the fridge and eat all your butter.

JTLYK, try googling "internet abbreviations".
IIRC that should help, at least AFAIK.
YMMV however.

I've heard some stupid kids (teens) actually SAY "lol". Like, they've lost the ability to actually LAUGH at something, so they say it. "Lol!" doy... ???
-
For some reason, I think of Shockwave when I see lol.

That's not new. TTFN, I heard that alot in the early 90s. It's the current kid slang, like rad and cowabunga was in the 90s.

Yeah. Missioncontrol is not one of those "two-handed typers". He feels one is all you need.

TTFN!!! ...... TTFN is English..... It means Ta Tah For Now.... which means see you later... It comes from the Indian Raj in the 19thC when it was a comon phrase.

Might that have something to do with a certain thread on the EE board? (And dead kittens?)

Interesting - here it got popular from the Winnie The Pooh cartoons, but I didn't know it was commonly used before Disney picked it up!

That's because it was picked up from us by US soldiers over here during WWII..... No doubt some of them then went on to work for Disney and took it with them. It's interesting because the phrase doesn't appear in any of the original AA Milne Pooh Bear books.

Holy crap! Twenty five replies for a simple question.
You guys crack me up. Well at least I know what it means now.
I just don't know if I can use it now without feeling like a copy cat.
LOL LOL LOL LOL LO........... it just doesn't feel right.
I'm going to come up with my own and make everyone feel dumb for not knowing what the heck it means. How about @#vbn naw that looks like when Q-bert curses. I must give this thought and meditation.
-
Why was I not notified when the meaning of LOL changed?
Sure now it's "Laugh Out Loud", but for many prior decades it was "Lots of Luck".

I thought lol = Lots of Lasagna :lol
-
I every now and then say LOL irl, but primarily to my wife and exclusively to make her angry. I also sometimes say "shrug" instead of shrugging my shoulders, to similar effect. And perhaps best of all is when I cop some Tyra Banks attitude and say "O. M. G. !!!!!"
-
My "retarded internet crap" that I say out loud is "B T Dubs"
It's my little way of insulting the person I'm talking to along with the entire subculture of "50+ representations of words per minute" dillholes.
Texting will be the end of our civilization!
-

Did you really just admit to that in public?
Until about 2 months ago I always thought QFT meant "quit f--king trolling"
That's because for you it often does...

Oh wow, that reminds me... What the hell happened to Fozzy? He hasn't been on in almost a year!

After a year of reading these threads I thought I would figure it out but it turns out I am a idiot. SO WHAT THE HELL DOES IT MEAN?
AND....without asking...or searching it...you never would've I bet. Me neither. So I asked. Oh. Then there were more. I wasn't all that interested. While it can be cute in a 'vernacular' fashion, a 'common use' I find lame. I never use that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

Well, for your guys information I am now a math teacher at a local high school :banghead: and have learned all the text lingo I can handle. When I wrote the post way back when, I truly didn't know what it meant. :dunno
So now I'm totally hip yo. :afro:
-
This reminds me of when my g/f was texting a friend and she said "LMAO"
he said "what does that mean?"
-- "Laughing ---my bottom--- off!"
and he said " You don't have to laugh at me just tell me what it means!" and this went on for a while. ;D
She also posted something on Myspace from her cell phone and it said "posted from mobile." This same guy asked "What are you doing in Mobile?" (Mobile is a neighboring town here in Alabama, BTW) ;D Probably funnier if you live down here..
