I have been running MAME V.97 on an AMD 750MHz PC, with 128MB RAM, and it has been fine for classics, and not so fine for some of the newer titles. Specifically - Killer Instinct, Hard Drivin, Virtua Fighter, Simpson's Bowwling etc...
I upgraded my MAME box to a 2.4GHz Intel, with 256MB RAM, and it's a lot better...KI now works, Virtua Fighter is fine, even Simpson's Bowling, but I still have problems...
I haven't tried a lot of games, but I'm still having problems with Tekken 3, Hard Drivin, and there's another, but the name escapes me right now...
I played with the frame skip and stuff a little, but it didn't really help.
Do I need more processing power, or are there problems with these games?
Thanks...

What Operating System are you running? Anything higher than Windows 98 (if it's a Windows box), you really need to at least double your RAM...

OK, so I dumped in 1Gb of RAM, so now I have a total of 1.25GB of RAM...
Still seems to have the jitters, and doesn't play at full speed...

Hard Driving does have some problems on most machines... The others you list as problem titles do require a fair HUGE amount of processing power to run completely smoothly. Especially in the more recent versions of MAME. Even a 3.5Ghz processor stutters with some of those.
