Title: Why get a 49 way joy?
Post by: rbarr110 on February 28, 2006, 02:39:23 pm
If I am only playing Mame games, is there any reason to go for a 49-way?

you can play the original 49 way games in mame... or you can get a GPwiz49 and use the digital restriction to turn the jostick into a 2way/4way/8way/et al...

In one word, versatility.

In a bunch of words:
It will play ALL 2-way, 4-way, and 8-way games, better than an 8-way.
It will also play 49-way games, and low-res analog games like Road Runner.

The only games it will not play well are true analog games, like Star Wars.
The stick only has 49 positions, but reads like a very jumpy analog stick.
That will cause your crosshairs to jump from one position to the next on games like Star Wars, rather than tracking smoothly.
