Title: PC Monitor to replace Arcade Monitor?
Post by: Henson123 on February 25, 2006, 09:49:58 pm
I just aquired two very used cabinets - a Street Fighter II and a Raiden.  Both have working everything, except monitors.

Is it possible to keep the Jamma board and PCBs intact, and have their signals sent to a PC monitor (we seem to have thousands around)?  I'm much more interested in the price and safety of computer monitors than the authenticity (and expence) of an arcade monitor.

Any suggestions?

No.

What specifically is wrong with the original monitors?  Note that they are perfectly safe, as long as you don't do anything stupid, like stick a fork in them.

One of the monitors have a vertical orientation, and works on the right 75% of the screen.  The left 25% has no picture at all.

The second monitor is completely dead, and many of the things that should be connected to the tube have been pulled out and cracked.

Any suggestions on the easiest and cheapest way to replace them?

the monitor that is towards one side of the screen is either just an adjustment issue or at most a couple of caps, try adjusting you horizontal shift and hold pots on the chassis, they should be clearly marked.as for the other how do you mean cracked?

Thanks for helping out a monitor novice like me...

On Monitor #1 (the one with the incomplete picture), I've tried adjusting every adjustment knob there is.  They still only unroll about 75% of the picture.  The picture ends at a bright line.  What does "hold pots on the chassis mean"?  Also, I've only heard of "caps" in the very vague sense - is there a guide to "capping"?

By cracked, I mean that the some parts of the monitor #2 that seem like they're pivotal were disconnected, and now are cracked, almost in half.  Please forgive my lack of correct terminology, but behind the tube there is a big wire-spooled thing that had fallen off.  I put it back on, but the plastic rings that go behind it had also fallen off and looked broken and burnt.  The final big plug, which seats the circuitboard and is connected by pins, was also off, and the circuitboard was nearly cracked in two.  It all looked pretty bad.

Does any of this help at all?  I may be able to post pictures late tonight or tomorow morning.

Thanks again for any input.

well on your chassis you have or should have the following adjustment pots verticle hold, verticle position, horizontal hold, horizontal position, contrast, brightness, horizontal width, verticle width, these could be situated on a remote board-just because you cant see it dont mean its not there.when i refer to caps i mean electrolitic capacitors, over time these componants dry out and can give faults like the one you describe,if you have a little experience with a soldering iron you can replace all your electrolitic capacitors with very little expense, only a little time.please can you tell me what chassis you have or take a photo of it so i can try and reduce the time it takes to locate your adjustment pots.
as for your other monitor it sounds like one for the skip, but if you know the chassis type you may be able to purchase a new/reconditioned chassis at little cost.again if you post a photo i may be able to identify your chassis type.

Sounds like monitor 1 might be repairable.
Monitor 2 is good for the dump. (You should keep the frame though. Might come in handy).

Here are some pics that I had of the two monitors.  I can take better ones if it'll help, but these I already had.

Here's the better of the two -

Here's the second, which seems like people think is pretty busted.

Do these give any insight?

First one is a Sanyo monitor.  I think the second one is a WGK7000 series, but I'm sure someone will come along and tell me I'm wrong.

Just capped my first Sanyo yesterday.

i dont know much about sanyo monitors but it looks like your colour controls are on the neck card at the bottom and the position controls are to the left of that on that small remote board, your other monitor is a hanterax mtc900 and a very early version, the tube base card has broken in half and had (what i would call) a bodge up repair, these monitors did not have major problems so check your fuses, voltages to the chassis, dry joints on the lopti.

I have tried several times to find a monitor for Jamma games.

The sync is always off. I can't find one that syncs down to 15Khz.  Around 30 is the lowest I could get.

I guess it would have to be one of the very old CGA monitors.

I don't know choose a new sync chip for a monitor, if that's even possible.  I heard they make a sync adapter to bring it down, but it's more than an arcade monitor.
