Title: Optimus Mini 3
Post by: rdagger on February 25, 2006, 09:12:44 pm
I know the Optimus keyboards has been discussed before, but it looks like they are now taking pre-orders for their mini 3 button USB organic light-emitting diode keyboard.

It's expensive and unnecessary, but it sure would look good on a CP.

I'm sure it won't be anytime soon for me, but I cannot wait to have one of those keyboards on my desk.

So totally cool...

How many more times do I have to tell you guys on this forum that the Optimus Keyboard is a FAKE!!

It DOES NOT EXIST! WILL NEVER EXIST at least not from that bunch of low life thieves and pirates.

Anybody who pays money to them on a pre order WILL lose their cash!

Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)

Do you have any proof or evidence to back that up? This is the first time that I have ever heard anything bad regarding this company.

It does exist and many reputable magazines and sites have interviewed and followed this project.  But feel free to show some proof Fozzy.

The keyboard images are all 3D renders. That's why there's alot of skepticism. Apparently a few years ago this company pulled a scam where they had all this design done up in 3D (something related to railways...) got all these investors, then never produced anything. (Hey, sounds like the Phantom game console!)

Here's a 1.5" color LCD display (http://www.dontronics.com/micro-lcd.html).

OMG look at the price!!!!!

If thats just for three buttons whats the keyboard going to cost?

It would be great if the keyboard actually was made, it would certainly put Zboard out of business :(

I shall wait till the end of the year and see if the 3 button has actually made it into production properly and if the keyboard is on the edge of being released

Would you buy a used car from this guy?

Why on earth would anyone PRE-ORDER a product like this in the first place?  There is no indication of when it would be delivered and you can bet if it was actually produced, the first few versions would be really crappy anyway.

Actually it says: "The keyboard is in production. The first lot is set to arrive on May 15. Retail price of Optimus mini three is US$100 (subject to change after April 2). "

I guess we just have to wait and see who has to eat crow. (What's so special about April 2nd?)

Hmmm....

Doesn't look fake to me.  And if it is FAKE someone spent alot of time on it.

What say you Foz?

Gizmodo is a pretty reliable source, I'd say it's definately real at this point.

Still not worth it at that price, however. Get it down to under $250 for a full keyboard and I'd probably be interested.

Yeah! the same amount of time they spent on their revolutionary new railway locomotive (that, strangely only ever made it to being a fake rendering as well) a few years ago......ROFLMAO....  I'm amazed that the world gets taken in by these Russian pirates every time and forgets the last time they were at it.  :laugh2:

What about the fact that the review video is posted by a reliable third-party source? If the video was something of theirs, I'd still be skeptical, but Gizmodo does ALOT of tech reviews and are pretty well known. Add in the fact that ThinkGeek has a final production model in hand (http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/88ee/) and I'm thinking you've been proven wrong on this count Foz.  ;D

Broken cell phones are so easy to come by that a BYO Optimus Mini would be possible using Nokia 1.5" color displays.  Here is a company (http://www.display3000.com) that sells the screens and custom controller boards.  Although buying the displays would end up costing more than the actual Optimus Mini.  However, I have 1 busted Nokia phone.  All I need is 2 more and some free time.
