I am building a three sided cocktail cab and want to use a couple of 49way sticks but the retro blast review of the stick makes it look like it hangs down 5" from the bottom of the CP. Is this true?
Right now I got 4" and could sand down some of the bottom of my CP to about 4 1/2, or I could cut a hole in the bottom of my CP and let part of it stick out. Man that would suck.
I know what you are thinking. Plan, Plan, Plan, but I didn't want to add a 49way until yesterday when I found out I needed it to play one of my favorite games SINISTAR!
Ya see, one of the reasons I love the classics is because of their increasing difficulty. Ten minuets on a console game is nothing. Yet ten minuets on Defender, Sinistar or level ten of Mrs Pac-Man is hard and fast. These games are made to suck quarters out of your pockets. I have a busy life ( job and kids) and don't have an hour at a time to play vids, yet I can always find ten to twenty minuets a few times a day to play a quick game of Tempest.

yeah you need 5" if you're going to hook up the rotary adapters for Ikari Warriors type games.
If you wont be using the rotary adapters then you should be fine with 3.5" if you recess the joystick into the underside of the control panel top.

Thanks timoe,
sound like it will fit right into my panel. no need to recess because I have metal CPs (3/16) thick. Although the rotary adapter sound like a good idea I don't think I would use it all that much.

what are some of the games that require a 49way joystick?
-
Sinistar, Blaster, and a handful of others. But when combined with the GP-wiz49 encoder with Digital Restriction technolgy from www.groovygamegear.com it allows you to switch automatically from 4 way to 8way to 2 way to 49 way.
Its a pretty versatile stick and since its optical, you get no clickity click from a microswitch.
The 49 way also allows you to play some analog stick games (some better than others)

I am building a 3 sided cocktail table and I am thinking of using two of these on the third panel, how would I hook these up? I was going to use an iPac4 for all the joysticks and buttons. Does the wiz49 get connect to this or does it connect separately? I am going to install an optipac also.

In order to get all the features I mentioned from the 49way stick you will need (1) GPwiz49 encoder for each 49way stick.
The good thing here is that the GPwiz offer 23 additional inputs so you should have more than enough inputs for all your buttons and joysticks.
You wont need an IPAC then.

So I can hook another joystick up to it, say a 4 or 8way?
-
After you hook up your 49way stick to your GPwiz49 you will still have 23 inputs available ON EACH ENCODER. That'll be more than enough.

Yes, any of the 23 inputs can be used for joysticks and/or buttons. I have the second joystick connected to inputs 8, 9, 10, 11.
