Title: Any special hardware for touch screen?
Post by: Lucky13 on February 23, 2006, 02:23:39 pm
I recently just purchaced a 18" NEC touchscreen but while going throught the pictures I noticed another vga cable.  Do I need a special video card or other hardware in order to have a touch screen?

Thanks

No.

This monitor seen to use a standard seriel mouse cable. So if your computer dosen't have a seriel port, you may get a seriel -> PS/2 adapter (if there are no adapter in the box).

It comes with an 8 port and 15 port serial cables.  Now the 8 port is the port for the video and the 15 is for the touchscreen capability correct?
The motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
Videocard is the ATI All-In-Wonder 2006 PCI Express
Am I alright with what I have or do I need to get another card?
Thanks
Nate

The 15 pin is the VGA and the 8 pin is for the touch screen. All you do is plug in the cable to your computer and install the drvier he ships you. It took me a second to find the other power switch that the monitor has besides the one on the front.

As long as the motherboard has a serial port you will be fine.

I just got my NEC in the mail yesterday. Very easy to setup. I'm not sure how I'm going to secure it in my Jukebox yet. I may decase it, not sure though.

Thanks for your help!  I'll see how I'm sitting when the monitor gets here today or tomorrow.
