Title: My project is getting no video ... please help.
Post by: Pioneer on February 23, 2006, 11:23:58 am
After putting about $500 into my 4 player desktop mame arcade I can't get a picture to the television

This is my video card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102441

I thought it would work but I must be missing something
No matter what settings I try in the video properties menu, I cant get it to recognize the composite video to the TV

Please help if you can

I had a similar issue setting up a Radeon 9700 recently. The problem was with the TV rather than the card. My TV needed to be manually changed to the right extension (EXT 2 in my case) and then changed in the setup menu to tell it I was sending an S-Video signal to it. It was defaulted to AV.

Could be your problem is something similar.

Could also be that your card isn't detecting the TV. Check in your ATI control panel and if it isn't recognising a TV then there should be an option to 'force TV detection' or something like that.

Thanks for the help, but I cycled through the inputs already on the TV and the TV is kind of older so it doesn't have S-Video.

I'm gonna try the force dection option as soon as I get home.

I'm gonna keep trying stuff.

I just called the guy at ATI to ask about my video card
He said there's no way to have a video card boot up to TV out
He said you will always have to do it manually.

Is this true?

it shouldn't be, but he should know best.  a tv is just another monitor, and it's not like you have two different video cards.  wierd.

I was wondering if this was true about video cards not booting up to tv out if mabye there is a program for windows that can boot automatically and then run a series of key presses so that it will make the settings changes it'self.  I've never heard of a program like this but it doesn't sound to difficult to write.

Some cards require you to manually tell it which output to use. I had an NVDIA that I had to do this on. My radeon switches on the fly (using the tab + some other button) between tv and monitor.
Should be no problem booting to tv...it is just another monitor.

I tried all the advice that I recieved
And then I just updated my video drivers which I should have done first.
Anyway it has an option to automatically force TV on startup.
I dont need a computer monitor at all now.  That's what I was shooting for.
Thanks everybody! :'(

I have a radeon 9800 and I have know problem using my TV as the default monitor. The BIOS and Boot skin roll vertically but hey, we cant have everything. Did you setup your primary display to tv through the ati control panel. If so make sure it is set to ntsc format, mine defaulted to pal. I know its a no brainer but make sure you are on the correct input channel, a lot of tvs have seperate input channels for s video. Hope this was of some help.

I have an ati all in wonder and it boots using just the tv with no problems.
Edit:
Oh looks like you fixed the problem.  Be happy  ;D
