All turning 18 does is give you three years to wait to turn 21.

Even 21 is just a stepping stone.  Insurance rates don't drop until you're 25.

Oh, you also can't have sex with underage girls anymore.  I'm not sure about boys, but better safe than sorry.  ;D

Just go to some other country and drink legally.  Can't understand why the US still has the 21 limit.  I thought Australia was the nanny state (especially since coming to the UK) with all the rules and regulations to keep everyone safe by not letting them think for themselves.  I like being able to walk around town or riding on the tube drinking beer.

My parents said it use to be 19.  I don't understand it either.  You turn 18 the government is fine with giving you the responsibility kill people (at war) but apparently you aren't responsible enough to have a few drinks.

It was 18 in Oklahoma, but sadly changed to 21 before I turned 18.

I can understand it being 19.  Makes it harder for booze to be at high school parties as most 19 year olds are no longer in high school.  But I never understood 21.

http://alcoholpolicy.niaaa.nih.gov/index.asp?Type=BAS_APIS&SEC={0D5C719E-FCE8-4E15-A367-4145C655505F}&DE={E6F19624-0ADC-437F-917D-5E7CBC9F58B9}

In WI you can drink under 21 if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  Again, stupid because as of 18 you are considered an adult and don't need parents permission for anything, BUT drinking.

so yeah happy birthday

everything seems so trivial when i was 17 then i turned 18 and hey i went out to eat with my friends and the people that are desparate to be included so i could get more money.  now im looking forward to when im old and dont have to work and can just relax and play video games.  things change when you get older.  everything is a let down.  then you die the end.  good story right.

your good years are behind you now you have to worry about not paying your taxes and getting free cable on your own cause no one will do it for you.

Here's an example of how ---smurfing--- retarded the Utah legislature is.  There is currently a push to pass legislation that would make it so you can't buy alcohol until the day after your 21st birthday.  The reasoning goes: 21st birthday is this big event where it's legal to drink, so people's 21st birthday parties are often huge boozefests.  If people can't legally buy/drink alcohol until the day after, their birthday party won't be a gigantic binger.

And, I suppose they're right.  The boozefest wouldn't take place on their birthday.  It would happen the day after.

Did you live in WI all your life?  I thought somewhere I read that you used to live in MN, but naturally, I can't be bothered to know for certain ;)  I'm thinking you're about the same age as I am, and the legal age used to be 18 before they changed it to 21 a bunch of years ago that I'm not going to tell and reveal my age an....  :P  It was 20 years ago, but the legal drinking age in WI was 18.

They changed it because they weren't gonna get federal funding for roads or some nonsense like that.  Same as the 55 speed limit.

"Yeah, we're gonna stand on our principles until you take money away from us and then we'll fold like a banquet table" ::)

Yeah, the freeway money made a huge difference with the states.  I don't see what's wrong with 3-2-1 beer.  Sounds like it was cool.  I'm only 27, so it was well before my time.  The government held the money on the end of a fishing pole and the little guppy states jumped at the bait.  Seatbelt laws anyone?

Oh yeah, happy birthday.  Have fun at the strip clubs, just be sure not to touch the merchandise.  If you do, either be ready to head to the free clinic and/or have a strong drug habit.  (That's what I hear anyways 8).  Other than that, eighteen sucks.  Don't smoke either, that's stupid.
