Title: Numbered Buttons
Post by: kingflynn on February 22, 2006, 09:23:49 pm
Does anyone know where to buy small, square buttons, numbered 0-9?
I've searched on here, but I could only find people using the small, lighted squares from Happ.  At over an inch square, these are bigger than what I want for my wall-mounted juke.  Any help is much appreciated.

Rip apart an old touchtone telephone?

Yeah it's not elegant but it'd work :)

That's a pretty cool idea.  Maybe rig it up so that when you press a button, it pushes a microswitch beneath.

Are you wanting individual buttons or a number pad?

Well I was looking for buttons like the ones on the juke below (it's not mine), thinking I would somehow rig the buttons up over microswitches, but that's not going to happen.  Those buttons are just too hard to find.  So I think I'm going to go with a keypad hack, like the ones shown in previous threads.  I'm keeping my eyes open though.

You could use standard buttons and just label around them or use volcano buttons.  They are pretty small.

I'm not crazy about spending seven bucks a button for Happ squares, so that's out.  Arcade buttons are much cheaper, but aren't the look I'm going for.  I'm thinking that a keypad is the best price/looks combo that I can find.  The keypad paired with a couple happ triangle buttons.  I'm not done looking though.

I just ordered a storm keypad with lcd display screen, but i plan on using a matrix orbital vfd in place of the screen they supply. As soon as i get it i plan on taking it apart, adding meaningful custom graphic overlays to the keys, figuring out the matrix of the keypad, and having a friend program some features to use with the display such as credit output and playlist display.

p.s. the image posted isnt the actual image of the device i ordered, but a similar device minus the customizable button graphic option.

That's a nice looking keypad.  Looks expensive.  I'd love to see the final product with the new overlay!

I wonder if one of the outfits that prints self-stick control panel overlays could do a custom overlay for this....

There are some small round buttons in the for sale forum.  Might be able to put some small vinyl numbers on them and make your own touchpad.  You could arrange the buttons any way like.

That's very similar to what I'm diong. I'll be having what is basically an entire CPO printed in adhesive vinyl. this will be stuck onto a sheet of plexi with some small tactile buttons mounted underneath. That allows you to make the 'buttons' any size, shape, colour etc because they are just printedon the overlay.
