Title: Console games on the arcade....hmmm
Post by: AE35 on February 22, 2006, 08:11:36 am

Hey all.

Last nigthe I was working with my 'test-setup' on the regular PC. I got MaLa to work with Marble Madness on the Genesis, since we feel that the arcade version is a little too hard(we use joystics)

Well, I have a coin-input on my machine, and that's perfect for mame games, but if I want to the same with consoles. I'd have to set the START button as a coin input. Problem is, many games take one START press to get to the pre-game screen, and another to get to the game. Which would mean that you would have to insert two coins >:(, at two different times.

So I just opted against using console games on my cab....

Anyone else feel the same?

Not at all.  I just wire the start button to the player 1 button it most cases.

Shouldn't cause you any issues.

P1 Start is a shift function for the purposes of coin input in default mame keys (you have to press start and P1 button 1 to add a coin).

Not sure why you would have to map P1 start as a coin input for console games?, is this some peculiarity with Mala?.

Simply map your console controls to your CP and map P1 start as...er....Start.

Is it that you want a coin input to be necessary to play a console game on your cabinet?  So that a user would be locked out of starting a game of Super Mario Bros. until they dropped a coin into the slot?
