I'm having a problem generating lists in MAMEWah...when I choose the generate list option, the screen just jumps like the PC did something, and it still shows a blank list...
If I choose just the romfolder option, then I get the files listed, but I would like to have proper names...I looked in the DOC, but they didn't really give an explanaition of what each option is (IE: romfolder_vs_listxml, etc)
Here's what I have in my INI file...any help will be greatly appreciated...
### 0001.ini (mamewah v1.61) ###
emulator_title Mame
### List Generation Settings ###

Usually that means it isn't seeing your rom files. Could check the mam.ini file as wll and make sure the ROMs path is rightin there. But otherwise I'm not sure. but that's the problem I had is my ROMs path was mistyped.

I'm not sure, but I think it's right...

Well, I've played around with it, and I can't get it to work...MAMEWah sees the roms, if I tell it just to do so, but when I try and use romfolder_vs_listxml, it doesn't do anything, when I generate a list...
I'm really at a loss of what to do...they first time I set it up, it seemed to work so easily, but my HD died, and now trying to set it up again, isn't working out at all...
-
I know its a no brainer but have you definitely got the mame.xml list in your mame folder?.

It's a no brainer for you, but for me, I guess it would be a brainer...
There is no mame.xml list in the mame folder...
How does this get generated?
I've read the documentation, but either I've missed stuff, or I just don't understand...probably a combination of both...
-
I know its a no brainer but have you definitely got the mame.xml list in your mame folder?.
The last I read MAMEWAH generated the XML file automatically. No need for mame.xml.
It looks like you're using MAMEWAH Config? If so, does list generation work in there?
If you open a command prrompt (Start -> Run -> type cmd -> OK), and type
c:\mame\mame.exe -listxml >c:\mame\mame.xml && more c:\mame\mame.xml
does it display XML gibberish on the screen (type q to get out of it if so) or does it give you an error message?

OK, well I ran this, and it created the MAME.XML file in my MAME directory...the DOS window got some stuff in it, and ended with MORE 0%
When I hit enter, it continued...
Is that a good sign?
-
Are you still not able to generate a normal game list?
Is that a good sign?
It is! It means the path to your mame executable is correct and you're running the correct version of MAME :)
Now the other piece that we need to check is if your rom folder is correct. To do that:
1) Open a command prompt (Start -> Run -> type cmd -> OK)
2) Type
dir c:\mame\roms >c:\mame\tmp.txt && start c:\mame\tmp.txt
3) copy-and-paste the first 15 lines or so from the notepad window to your reply :)
You should get a bunch of zip files. If so, answer my question about MAMEWAH Config :) If not, your rom path isn't correct in MAMEWAH's config file for MAME.
-
OK, so I ran it and created the file. Here's what I got...

It looks like you're using MAMEWAH Config? If so, does list generation work in there?
Is this the MAMEWah question you're referring to??
I am using MAMEWAH config...the INI is posted above...the problem I've been having is that I can't get a list to generate...only when I use just ROMFOLDER, do I see anything in the menu...
-
I know. I asked if you could generate your game list in MAMEWAH Config instead of MAMEWAH.
It looks like everything is in the right place.

-
Weird...is there anything I need besides the CAVER.INI file and the default MAMEWAH install? Maybe I'm missing some files...
-
Well, I downloaded a file called MAME.DAT and pointed the INI to it, and I got the games list...
-
I had friends over on the weekend, and went to play The Simpsons, and they didn't show up in MAMEWah...simpson Bowling is there, but none of the others....I started MAME32 and looked...the games are there, and I can run them, but when I go from MAMEWah, and try...nothing...
I've tried re-generating the list, and that didn't work...
I copied the MAME.exe, MAME.dat, MAME.xml, etc from my old machine (That worked properly)...and they still didn't show up...I'm not quite sure what I'm doing incorrectly...
Any ideas? What should I do to troubleshoot this?
Thank you,
Matt

After you move the new files over you need to regenerate your game list. If you are using the DAT file for list generation search inside of it and see if the Simpsons entried exist. If so, a game list regeneration should correct your problem. Also, before regenerating a custom list you must first regenerate the main list in MameWAH.

I tried regenerating after putting the files there, but that didn't work...I haven't looked to see if the Simpson entry is tyhere...I just assumed it was, since it worked on the original PC...
I'll take a look tonight...
Thank you...
