I am trying to come up with a color for my cab. I think white is a kool color because the artwork will stand out better.
I am in the painting phase and just wanted to see what is out there. Black and red are kinda the norm if you ask me.
You opinion and/or vote is helpful. And thx!!!

kool, I was thinking about green. More of a neon/xbox green for a theme.
-
I still planning my colors but I think im going black with a few bit of the crazy dark blue and dark blue t-molding
-
Trying to do something original at this point is extremely difficult. Do what you like - thats what matters.
Theres a reason why most ferraris are red
-
Yellow...
Everybody paints their cabinet black... black cabinets are boring

Black cabinets are teh kewl! Especially with blue T-molding and neon lights!
This is my favorite:

The reason so many cabinets are black/blue is because it looks cool. Even though a lot of people have done this color, there is no reason for anyone to shy away from it unless you already have one in that color scheme.

I'm with you 100%. Knievel is the man and that cab of his looks GREAT!

Orange. It's the new black.

that is the most ugliest cabinet ever.....

Close! It's the Tiki-Cade (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=42846.msg432082#msg432082)! :)
(it's my perpetual work in progress that's been completely sidelined by my purchase of a Space Invaders machine which has been completely sidelined by my purchase of a cocktail cab kit)

I'll build a wicker-cade next to put in my grandma's house

Don't forget to cover it with clear plastic. We don't want any stains.

luv it! that is super kool.

You could always go with a wood grain, tape off some secions and do some groovy effects with stain.
I like the tiki cab. I need a similar theme for a Mexican cantina cab I have in the works.

if the wicker-cade doesn't work for you the other option is to gather up all the doilies you can find then soak them in resin....
the doilie-cade

-
Ok, I'll bite. Since we are on the subject of bizarre "Grandma based" arcade cabinets, how about the Holi-cade. A Holiday Season cabinet made completely from Fruit Cake.
Structurally it will be the strongest cabinet ever built, and every year you just re-gift it to another family member.
-
Balsa-cade! The lightest and easiest to move arcade game ever.
Of course, don't use a large heavy monitor, it will probably fall through the wood...
-
Of course you could combine my two ideas
the wicked wicker doilie cade
(http://www.rexie.com/rexie/Doilies/grapedly.jpg)
-
you could also go the opposite of Havok's idea and build something to keep the big bad wolf from stealing your tokens
the Brick-Cade
(http://kas.felinity.net/images/Brick-03-Color.jpg)
-
You could build it entirely out of gunstocks and call it the stockade :police:
-
My first cab was 2-tone Black and Purple (dark grape color) with a metallic Blue CP. It's gone now but I really liked the color scheme as it just looked fun.
Good luck with your choice. Remember, it's not furniture, It's a toy. Paint it so a child will run to it. After all, it is all about reliving our childhood.

Holy CRAP that is the worst attempt at a pun I've ever seen! I feel like the only thing missing is a priest giving your sense of humor last rites ;)

Hey man, no kidding. If you are not restrained, this is great advice.

purple laminate with yellow t-moulding

exactly that's why you need bright fun colors..... not boring ol' black..
-
How about cornflower? (check the big box of Crayola's - that might not be the right color). Then you could name it Corn Cade, or throw on some psycho artwork and call it Children of the CornCade
-
How about this for a cabinet name:
MY DAD NEVER BUILT
SOMETHING THIS COOL
-
Mine would be a shorter title.
MY DAD NEVER BUILT SOMETHING
;D
-
How about:
IF MY WIFE DOESN'T LIKE
THIS CABINET SHE CAN
SUCK IT, TREBEK!
-
I'm all for it, but then we can't have friends over with their wives, and I'd like to invite McCoy's buddy's wife over, and that other wife from the neighborhood ;D
-
I would say an orange cabinet looks the best but many of you would consider my statement to be biased.
For this reason I submit the following image and request that you make up your own mind.
-
That's a cheep shot bones.....she's obviously standing by the orange cabinet waiting for the lard ass to get off the yellow cabinet
-
Obviously she should be more concerned about getting eaten (with butter sauce), than playing Space Invaders.
-
purple laminate with yellow t-moulding
yeah, YURPLE!! going back a decade too early but what the hey!
i seriously like orange. someone else suggested it too. heres an example:

that would look awesome if it was yellow

Forgive the stupid question as I am a noob, but are the plans for this posted somewhere?
-
Are the plans posted for this somewhere
I'm not sure. The creator's username here is: Knievel
Send him a PM and see if the plans are available.

Use that chalkboard paint on it. Leave a box of color chalk next to it and that way you or anybody else can change the sideart on a regular basis. ;D

You know you smiled ::)
I submit that a brightly colored cabinet with child appeal is more in my taste. Even though I will build black n blue cabinets for other folks, I do not intend to ever own one.
I would steer away from yellow though :P
-
mine is going to be black and blue.

dammit my forehead just about black and blue froom banging it on the desk thinking of all theses black and blue cabinets all around
-
The black just hides mistakes well and the blue really goes with it. MissionContolls cab is a work of art. Better than most you see at an arcade.
Funny thing is that most of us BYOA'ers are a little underwhelmed at seeing another black cab with the word MAME on the top.. When friends and family see it their jaws drop especially when you tell them you made it.

You have to admit though, Knivel's cab is like the Thunderbomb of all black and blue cabinets.
Given that the color is the first thing most people notice, the quality of craftsmanship is really what counts.
As long as its Neon Green or Hot Pink. ;D

I wanted to beat my cab black and blue when I figured out I cut the t-mold slot with the wrong bit. But I just painted it instead. Mission if it makes you feel better I thought briefly to make the cab with a Stryper theme http://www.stryper.com/ (http://www.stryper.com/).
God I love God rock. ;D

No he doesn't. I have proof of this too ;D ;D ;D
-
If I ever get around to making a UAII cab, I'm leaving the bottom section and the CP top natural and staining it a nice cherry, and having the upper section and the rest of the CP a dark forest green or dark blue - like a midnight blue or something similar.

White Dude, WHITE.
I can't beleive so many people voted for black.(I suspect it's so they feel good about their choice) Come on people.
Black!? That's like the choice of the slimey operators who slap it on their beaten up, cigarette burned, graffiti covererd, generic vertical shooter JAMMA cabinets that they dump off at the 24 hour laundromats in Korea town.
Your artwork will POP with a white background no matter what it looks like(as long as it's not white)
When I primered(white primer) my Q*bert cabinet I half wanted to keep it that way instead of restoring the yellow. It looked CLEAN.
Hell, at least use white primer, if you like it you keep it if not, throw on another color.
White Dude.
-
that they dump off at the 24 hour laundromats in Korea town.
Weren't you in a laundromat commercial?

It was a detergent commercial. And the main characters were much like his color recommendation. WHITE, dude, white! ;)

now THATS an interesting idea (",). or for the modern version make it from white board and have a box of different coloured whitre board markers next to it ;D

I'm starting to think your funny Aussie speak is really "just add "re" to the end of the word"
Is that Oz-speak for "white"? ;)
Oh, and congrats. For all of you that don't know,

1. make it out of chipboard
2. paint it black
