Title: Louisiana auction pix
Post by: dax on February 20, 2006, 07:02:19 pm
I went to check out the stuff up for auction today.  Pretty disappointing:

Here's the worst of all...

Nothing worked.... I think this equipment is completely wasted... I can't imagine anything here worth bidding on.  The only thing that looks original is the Simpsons game.

You did ask to plug them in didn't you?  I mean, you didn't just take their word for it did you?

Disapointing is relative to cost.

I see a lot of mame cab skeletons there.

That's what I call a "crapfest". Half of those are probably bootlegs.

I see the x-men marquee and think that the op just gave up--not even going to make a half assed attempt to look legit..--is that electrical tape used to make the letters?

Where in LA. Were any of those under water after Katrina?

The Toki is in an old Nintendo cab. The op was too lazy to actually replace the bezel, so he just flipped it so the graphics face inward. I can't tell what the original game is, though.

The Simpsons is dedicated, and probably the only thing worthwhile (unless you have an eye for the RB cab).

Skull and Crossbones in what looks like a generic Dynamo cab.

What on Earth did they do to that RB cabinet??

That X-Men and LE2 look like ass. Probably not bootleg, though. Marquees can get broken or stolen, and the op looks for the cheapest way to replace it. Hence, hardware store stick-on lettering.

High Impact in what I believe is a Gauntlet cabinet.

SF2 in a generic Dynamo cab, as expected.

Knock Out in a Universal cabinet, I believe.

Tekken 2 in a ... Dragon's Lair cabinet? Yikes.

Do you have the prices for what these went for, or do you have a general isea?

I'd pick up the Simpsons if the price was right... but that's about it.

Those cabs are great to work with, and you could probably clean it up pretty well... although the side art doesn't look so great.

OMG!  Steering wheel and hi-low shifter in RB.  :'(  Looks like it had been cut in two or something, probably to make it easier to move.  It would probably cost more to restore than the trouble it would be worth... how unfortunate.

Looks like the pics you showed us the first time in the other thread were the cream of the crop.

The Nintendo was a Popeye.

Other than the Street Fighter and Simpsons, I would say it would be a good MAME cabinet run if you could get them on the cheap.  How many peeps showed up for the auction and what did each cab go for?

Kinda sad, but I do see lots of potential there ... I see 2 or 3 cabs besides the RB that I would have been interested in (ppor RB).

Thanks for posting the pics.

Cheers.

High Impact Football in a Gauntlet cab?  Blasphemous.

I didn't attend the auction.  I drove about 60 miles to inspect the stuff and after seeing the condition of things, I decided it was not worth it.

I went around and checked out most of the machines.  I plugged as many in as I could and they were all dead.  I didn't see any obvious signs of flooding, but you never know.  The MBs might be salvageable but I'm guessing the power supplies were toast.  I couldn't get anything to work and I even checked to make sure the power was working

Most of the control panels were hacked plywood, propped at weird angles, everything looked like it was spraypanted with Krylon black.  The Simpsons cab looked kind of decent but since it was the cream of the crop, I expected some anxious bidder to probably go much higher than what it's worth.  For all I know they went for $10 each or, maybe $300.  In any case, I'm not sure I would have spent the time to load them into a pickup.  I took what you guys said to heart and I might end up building my own cabinet for my next project.
