Title: Namco TV Game (Bosconian)
Post by: Witchboard on February 18, 2006, 08:01:12 pm
I know these have been discussed quite a bit.  Probably the reason why I can't find what I'm looking for since the search returned so much, but anyway... My question is about Bosconian and it's limitation to 4-way.  Is the software incapable of letting it go 8-way or is it due to a restrictor in the joystick?

I guess a simpler question would be: If I hack a Namco TV game with an 8-way joystick will Bosconian play the way it's supposed to?

I don't know for certain but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the newer wireless version of the MsPacman unit includes Bosconian and has a 4/8 way switchable joystick. So I suspect the software will allow you to go diagonally.

I got the older PacMan one, so maybe it's a software update?  I'm just not sure.  I was hoping that one of the several people who have already hacked this would give me some hints, but maybe I've got this in the wrong forum...  I plan on using a J-Stick anyway, so I can change it from 4 to 8-way, so I'll answer my own questions in time.  Thanks for the reply Grasshopper.  :)

Just for future reference, Bosconian will play in 8-way mode.  It's just the restrictor in the joystick that causing the 4-way gameplay.
