I have been looking around and im planing on buying a i-pac2, a mag-stik, a bunch of push buttons all from http://www.ultimarc.com/ and I wanted to know if this is the way to go. Cheaper is better because im on a buget but I would rather dish out a bit more better quality.

We need a ton more information. What do you want to play? Are you going to add a trackball? Please give as detailed a description as you can, and the advice will come pouring in. As of right now, yeah, sounds good. You may want to get a computer and a monitor of some sort as well. ;D Get the idea?

I had to cut the spinner and trackball out. I have the computer almost all set up as for mame. Im using a 15 inch screen. I might add a coin door later on. Im planing to play a lot of the older game like galiga and game of that time but im also going to be playing fighter also. Its going to be a 1 player cab tho.

With no spinner or trackball, sounds like you're good to go with the plan that you have there.

What are you planning on building? A cab or a control panel?
If you are planning on building a cab nothing about it is really cheap and if I were you I would save up a little money first so you can make it as good as you can. It would be worth the wait. Cheap cab now that you will only want to remake or better cab later its up to you!!

Sounds good..... You might want to take a look at the Keywiz interfaces at http://groovygamegear.com (http://groovygamegear.com) especially the Keywiz Eco which is cheaper and IMHO better value at $20 than the interface you were looking at.

I would like to echo Ghoward's sentiment. This hobby can get quite expensive, :o...especially if you like to tweak, tinker, and upgrade. I would suggest building a test control panel first and get the controls configured the way you like them ;D. Then do the things you want to make the CP look you nice like painting it, installing overlays and T-molding. The skillz you aquire working on the control panel will help you when you decide to tackle the big cabinet :). Building a cabinet can run into several hundred $, some times thousands $$$ :o... But you can build a basic 1 player control panel for $50 to $150 including controls, interface and materials. Plus it is a nice way of enjoying your classic games without having to wait until you finish your cabinet.
Anyway, once you get the fever, it is hard to quit... I started with 2 joysticks, 6 buttons, and an IPAC...and now I am up to 3 swappable control panels, 1 full cabinet, 1 bar-top, 2 shelves full of assorted parts and hacked joysticks, and I spend way too much time on the BYOAC forum... :D
...not trying to discourage you from building your dream cab, just trying to give advice... good luck on your BYOACing!!! ;)

Im still low on cash but im someone who will work on this for months untill I get the right set up. Im temp cutting a coin door but that is a need in my eyes. I have had offers tho for me to build a few other people cabnets if mine turns out good. Im messing around tho right now with pannels on the peace that the buttons are going on and as of know I think I found the best comb.
