I am just about to the cutting stage of my cabinet and My design was originally 78" from the very tippy top to the very bottom.
Everything looks proportional on paper but I would like some input on wether or not this is too tall of a cab for most people.
Thanks,

It's a bit tall.
(but is the cabinet proportionately wider?)
-
I agree--mine comes in at 6'3" and I find it looks too tall--the panels and everything are fine--just the top half is a bit up there--next iteration will be shorter...
-
My cabinet is 74" x 30" x 34". I didn't want to go any more than 76" since some of my doorways are only 76". As stated above.. it depends a lot on the overall dimentions.. I think mine looks ok but I'm still far from being finished (aren't we all)

Sounds a bit tall. However, one thing I don't like about the classics is that the lit marquee is right in my face. I would say try a cardboard mockup if possible to get a feel for it. If you are taller, then maybe that is a good height for you.

This is just another "relative" question. for me this would be a nice cabinet but i am 6'7. i am sure if you are under 6 ft then this is just way too large. The main concern is can you fit through a doorway, and if not can it be easily taken apart. If it will be too hard to move then go shorter, i guarantee you will kick yourself later when you can't move it either because you sold it, made a new one you like better, or just plain ole move to another house.
If you already have the plans set up for it I don't see a reason to change them. The bigger it is the wider your friends eyes will be when they come over for poker night.

My CPS2 cab is 82.5" tall not including the extra two inches the casters add. It is pretty damn tall, but I like it that way.
-
i built my neo geo mock cab 12 percent larger, which brought it to 78 inches. it is tall, and i've got to tilt it back to get it through doorways, but it's perfect for me. it is taller than most arcade cabinets, but like it was mentioned before, i find the marquee and relative height of a regular cab to be too short. the width i dind't make proportionally larger, and if you look at it from the side, it is kinda large, but i don't think i'm gonna stand and look at it much, mostly from the side, since i'll be playing it instead.
-
Why not build the cab to "normal" dimensions (about 6ft). If you're not completely satisfied, make a base for to raise it up a few more inches.
-
cp height would change dramatically with a riser built afterwards, if you scale it up, the cp won't move up quite as far. and you'd have an odd riser box under your cab, which would look like an afterthought.

I agree in that the 78" is probably going to bee too tall. The thing is, I need the CP to be about the same height as designed while still losing about 4-5 inches.

I agree with the light being in my face but I can't see myself actually keeping the marquee light on for much of the time. Probably as I am showing the cab off and/or maybe sometimes while I play. But I did think about that and thats why I started it out so big.
How big are some of your Marquee sections? 8-9"? Mine was originally 10" (Top to bottom [ \ ) so maybe I can start there with cutting out some of this height.

with my large cab, my marquee area is like 9 1/4 by 27. inches...

My cab is about 6' (72") tall (before putting castors on the bottom). MOST doors are 6'-8" (80") tall, but that is the dimension of the door, and not the actual through-wall opening.
The 6'-8" does not account for the 1/2" wood trim on the door jamb that stops the door. So you are looking at about 79.5" clearance, you should be ok, but measure all your doorways that you may be moving the cab through. Also account for change in floor elevation due to floor finishes, i.e bare concrete from garage to +1" of pad and carpet through the door.

WOW, all thing that I had (nevr thought about/completely overlooked). Thanks for the insight rbarr110.
I have decided to draw the proportions of the marquee section out on cardboard in full scall so I can get a good Idea of what I am dealing with as far as dimensions.
Maybe it is too tal/wide. we'll see.
