Is this awesome and worth buying? Why are so many people modding it once purchased? Is it inadequate out of the box?
I'm thinking about picking one up. I just found one at EB today for $59.

People here mod, because that is just what we do. :)
It is not BYOAC for:
Buy
Your
Own
Arcade
Controls
It is BYOAC for:
Build
Your
Own
Arcade
Controls
That being said...
The buttons are convex, so that would be the first thing to get swapped, and generally speaking...
The sticks that usually come in those controllers can be greatly improved upon, and rather cheaply at that.

Yes.
Consider it a box with a controller in it. Disreguard the buttons and sticks, because all of them need replacing before you even consider using it with games.
If you consider that worth $59, then go for it. You could build something yourself for less if you had the time/effort/skill/tools.

Its not horrid IMO.. Its good enough to some, and not to others.. open it up and feel the controls.. to me they were a bit stiff and buttons were a bit small feeling..

Hey man, just wanted to hit both crowds. Wasn't sure if everyone read all the different forums so I wanted to get feedback from both areas. Thanks for your awesome feedback!

Cross posting is not allowed in any online forum. It only leads to clutter and confusion.
Pick the right forum, and post. The regulars whose opinions are worth something will read all the forums and you'll get a decent answer.

This forum is so diverse that I didn't have a clue where to post and I needed an answer quick due to purchasing decisions.
No more cross posting. Thanx.
