Title: Too late!
Post by: CCM on February 13, 2006, 10:04:13 am
So, I see a good deal on Newegg for a DVD burner last Thursday, I add it to my cart and it brings up a few other items that are on sale, one of them being an external hard drive enclosure.

I've been wanting to get an external hard drive for a while so I can start backing stuff up, so I happily add it to my cart and add a hard drive to go with it, it says it should all be here on Monday.   So I get home from working my third Saturday in a row, and want to relax and unwind by playing some games, so I fire up the MAME machince to find that my hard drive has eaten itself.... I try the freezer trick, no luck, try installing it in another computer, no luck... it's dead.

So now I'm pissed, all the arcade games, SEGA games, Super Nintendo games, emulators, music, etc... is all gone!!!!!  It's going to be a pain in the ass to rebuild and reinstall everything!  Of course, I come into work this morning and my shinny new drive enclosure and hard drive are waiting for me!  If the damn thing could have lasted a few more days I would have backed everything up!!!   :-\

That sure does suck, but you should have been doing regular backups anyway.  Consider this a tough lesson.  I remember when I first lost important data due to a hard drive crash... its not an enjoyable experience.

Hard drives are under .50 a gig now without even looking hard, and DVD burners are $30... everyone should be doing regular backups.
