Title: GPWiz-49 silent mode?
Post by: arzoo on February 12, 2006, 01:03:11 pm
Over on tigerheli's site, he mentions that a there may be a version of the GPWiz-49 software which will not display the DRS icon when changing modes (silent mode). This would be very useful when used with set49mode. I've searched, but have not been able to find any info on this. Did RandyT ever release such a version?

I don't have a copy. As far as I know there may have been a beta provided to a few people, but it wasn't mass distributed as far as I know. I've even sent an email or 2 requesting it. I'd LOVE to have a copy of it myself.

How about if mame selected the DRS mode for you based on the games input.  You would also have the ability to override this with a DRS mode setting in the MAME input menu.

Well, the set49mode is invisible. RANDY's software is not. If you pass a command line parameter to it, a little image pops up, and I don't know of a way around that. If you knew how to talk directly to the GP-wiz49, hey, that would be great. As it stands, the GGG software is the one that's visible, not the set49mode app.

"If you knew how to talk directly to the GP-wiz49"

I do and I am.  If you download PowerMAME, you'll notice a .DLL called groovy.dll.  It does more than just talk to the LEDwiz.

swell.

The 49way selection won't be in this release however.  I'm working on it now.

that's ok. I'm working on a few things of my own. Hopefully I can have them wrapped up in the next week or so.

If anyone wants a stab at adding new menu selections to the input menu, let me know.

I'll look at it. I might be able to help with this in the future.

Using the groovy.dll, can I configure the GPWiz49 without the DRS Icon?

You would need to write a program that uses the DLL and provides you with some mechanism to tell the DLL what mode to set it to.

So is the definitive answer that there is no "silent" version of the GPWiz49?

I think what you missed is that Sir Poonga's set49mode is "silent".

no there is currently no silent version of the GPWiz49. Toonces, Set49Mode is silent, but it talks to the "vocal" GPWiz49 software making for a fun icon-filled time of switching modes :)

I wouldn't say that.

I think THIS (http://www.groovygamegear.com/GPWIZ49S.EXE) may be what you are looking for.

by the way when I implimented this with set49mode and Mamewah, I had to set up a bunch of "nosafelaunch" junk to get it to run correctly. 'S been a while since I had to do any of that.

Thanks for setting that straight! I was under the impression that set49mode was all I would need. Until yesterday I was using my original batch files to do switching using a relay board connected to the parallel port. Since PowerMAME came to be a reality I decided to finally revamp my cab with the LEDWiz I bought last year and just finished replacing the CPU on both of my GPWiz-49's last night so they would be USB switchable. Big overhaul. All new Ice buttons with RGB LEDs and switching over to freshly rebuilt Williams 49 way sticks from Midways. I finally got my balltops! They're orange but they are balltops (at least until I can get the red repros!).

Of course, now that Randy has posted the silent version of his program, it will be silent for me by the time I finish up  :D

Randy, it's a Mamewah thing. Not specifically related to your software.
