Post by: SithMaster on February 11, 2006, 01:34:28 pm
while attempting to get mame to autostart in dos mode now all i get is the line c:\autoexec.bat repeating over and over agian.  is there a way for me to fix this without needing to get a new hd.  thanks.

Heh...I don't think you need a new hard drive.

Just hit control-C to break the batch file, and edit it so it's correct.

you sir are a genious

alright then for getting mame to autostart with one game for a dedicated cab would i just type

cd \mame
mame spacduel

this would be the only lines in my autoexec.bat becuase when i first went into it there was nothing else in it.

Okay, but what about the other stuff to load your sound drivers and whatnot?

they wouldnt work for me in dos so i set the command to -soundcard 0 for the time being till i find drivers for my card which i did but i havent installed them yet  originally the pc was from a school but they never used dos so when i got it i upgraded it from 95 to 98 and after i upgraded thats how the .bat was blank.

i installed my sound drivers and now it kinda works.  i think mame autostarts in pure dos but you cant see the game but you are at the dos screen showing that the config for sound is correct, c:\mame, and then c:\windows\ or something like that and when i type win it claims a dos based program is still runnning and to exit it so i hit esc and then it loads to windows.  any theories as to why i cant see it now?

edit:sound works fine now in dos mode but i still have to type commands at startup.  heres my autoexec.bat

@ECHO OFF
cd \mame
mame spacduel -soundcard 1
set blaster=a220 I5 D1 T4

what am i missing?  thanks.

set blaster=a220 I5 D1 T4
cd \mame
mame spacduel -soundcard 1

Try that instead.

So...wait.  Are you doing this on initial boot, or from a command prompt?

do you mean configuring the autoexec.bat or trying to get the game to run?

i want it to start when you turn the pc on but in dos mode so i wont have windows displaying bootup info

what i meant was even though i have the info in the autoexec.bat it shows the above info instead of starting the game.  i think it may be the drivers for sound since after i installed them it seems like they take precedence over mame.  cuase when i type a command it says its running an app so i think mame is running in the background.

but im trying to go for it starting on bootup in dos.

o and im using mame .36 for dos is there a command to stop the press any key from displaying every time the pc loads?  i know some versions dont have it load every time so if thats not the case with this one is there a list of versions that do have this feature.  thanks.

Please post your *exact* autoexec.bat and config.sys files.  From the sounds of things, you're only posting parts.

ive added some stuff since last time

@ECHO OFF
SET BLASTER=A220 I5  D1 T4
CD \
CD MAME
MAME SPACDUEL -Soundcard 1

but i think my earlier problem with the sound card showing its configuration in pure dos mode might be cased by me using drivers for win 98 se and not for dos so im checking driverguide for the right ones.  but that is all i have and originally the .bat was empty.  the game starts fine when i start in win98 and restart the pc but then it shows the windows startup info and mem check and such.

also for .36 how can i disable the game info ive added skip_gameinfo - yes to my mame.cfg but it still shows.  thanks.

So that's your *entire* autoexec.bat file?

You can't - unless you complile a custom version.  Why don't you use .104?

yes its my entire autoexec.bat i know its too short based on what ive seen of others so far.  im trying to run spaceduel on a pentium 1 266 with 64 mb and a 4mb vid card.  this was the one recommended to me and it worked for me when i tested it in ms dos mode in windows.

would .104 work well on my current setup?

Depends on what games you're running on it.  Dunno about Space Duel.  That's a vector game, right?

Please post your config.sys file as well.

yeah its a vector from around the 80s so its should be supported on everything from .36 up if its on .36
