Here is hours upon hours of my life (and should have been study-time), but hey, I now have a childhood wish.   :D
My Cabinet Site (http://www.geocities.com/drjayd177/DrJsArcade.html)
BTW... I'll be making a new overlay and getting rid of all that yellow.  It's going to be blue, purple and black buttons with some kind of mame-color-scheme background.

Whoa, those are some nice cabs!  I haven't seen some of them before.

Here's a picture of my perpetually incomplete cab sporting interchangeable controls and a stained glass marquee:

I want to finish this little panel, and then make a 4 player version (Atari Football here I come!)

Post by: SNAAAKE on March 04, 2003, 07:15:42 pm
simple question, how many panels you have in there?

Its like roating or somethin? ???

Ala 1up?

I like the dual trackball panels.. ;)

Thats it..no one wants to post more?..POST MORE !.. ::)
Title: Re:Arcade cabs!!
Post by: jerryjanis on March 04, 2003, 07:52:57 pm
It's just one panel.  The trackballs/joysticks swap out so I can have any strange combination of controls that I can dream up.  (I was playing wacko today - with a joystick in one hand and a trackball in the other).  The sheet metal around the trackball outlines the part that swaps out.  Also I can pull out the larger wooden rectangle that houses 2 players worth of controls and will be able to drop it into the 4 player panel when I get to that.

I'd like to see more of "the modules" myself =P  like one of the sheetmetal boxes without anything in it or a joystick out of the panel, etc... =P

more pics please!

I'll have a whole website about it when it's done, but hopefully these pictures kinda show how it works:

4) A little autocad drawing for one of the modules
5) A mouse hack is buried under all the duct tape
6) I get power from a cable from my cpu's power supply & I can daisy chain it across a bunch of modules that need it.
8) (the module) drops into 7) (the panel) and the clips secure the module

Ha ha, yeah I thought I'd be the first, too, but some guy did it a couple of years ago (1999 - project #90).  Here's a little web page with a better picture of the marquee:

I don't see the part in that thread where he says "Nice".

I do notice it's the same company whose kit you were dissing a couple days ago, tho'...and You still haven't replied.. are you afraid to agree that more options are a good thing?  ;)

to heck with it, I'm gonna order one of them and see just what it's all about..I'll do a write up, take pics and stuff..whether it's easy or not, whether it's high quality or not.. I'm definately curious...
(That reminds me, did anyone do a keywiz web page yet?)
(sides, It's only a days pay, the wife can't get *that* po'd.. I need an encoder and the other hardware anyways..:-)

Hmm..Maybe they can charge it as "Fisher-Price Baby Swing" on the VISA statement..it's about the right price..<g>

MAN !..i am not gonna argu over if its a good deal..i dont find it that good..$130 for something i still gotta work on is just not my type..i could probley do 3 dual joysticks for that amount..i know you hate x-arcade to death but they sell parts really cheap..and use $2 psx game pad..that how you built 3 dual joysticks for only $130.Now i will never ever post about this so called "KIT". :-X

I can post some pictures when I get home.  The labels on the left each have an image of my control panel with button labels for my jukebox, front end, Daphne, and Stella.  The label on the right is a list of multi-button games with letter codes matching up buttons to my control panel.  The bottom labels are the MAME logo, an image of my control pnel with the standard MAME buttons labelled, an image of the Space Wars instruction card with references to an image of my control panel, a Golden Tee instruction card, and instructions on how to calibrate the Act-Labs lightgun.

There are automotive cupholders mounted to both sides of the cabinet.  The button layout is a street fighter II type, with the addition of a MK III "run" button to the bottom left.   There is an imperial trackball mounted in the middle, it works great for Golden Tee PC.

The original files are Corel Photo-PAINT 10 files;  I'm putting it up at http://mywebpages.comcast.net/celamantia/mamecab/bezel.zip . PhotoShop might open them, I don't know.  Don't waste time downloading 8 MB if you don't have anything that can open a .CPT file!  :)

Actually, they are two 6" Car Speakers.... Powered by a 100w stand alone home stereo AMP, which sits on top of the cabinet.  The speakers do a fine job with emulation sounds, but I like the color and style.

They sure add up quickly, don't they?  :)

My first version was so cheap because the computer was free except the power supply; the cab I got on eBay for $61, and its control panel already had 2 Happ Ultimates, 12 buttons, two start buttons, and the cab had the glass, car speakers, and a complete coin door sans mechs; and for the interface, I hacked a free keyboard, which had an embedded trackball that I was able to make work in the cab.  My biggest expense was a monitor for $150.

Since then I bought a new motherboard and CPU ($150), side art ($70), trackball ($10), lightgun ($40), better joysticks ($16), Golden Tee and House Of The Dead 2 ($20), more buttons, more screws, etc, etc...
