The return of the 'Newbie-tastic MAME-alicious cabinet...'
Yes, I have returned. However, considering only two people responded to my initial post,
{http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=48179.msg467446#msg467446 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=48179.msg467446#msg467446)},
about my trek down the path o' building this cabinet...I imagine that won't be too terribly exciting to anyone. ;D
Still, I have completed what I consider to be phase one or version 1.0 or somethin' like that.
So, here's the before and afters...

Well then why didn't you simply stick all this stuff in that same post? You DO realize, don't you, that you looked at scads of questions as a project announcement? You most certainly would have gotten more answers to your questions on where to start if you'd have posted it in a place more suited to non-progress and "where should I start" questions
You're dealing with a static forum, not some AIM or ICQ chatting. You didn't reply to someone for 3 days (not UNtypical, btw) and apologized for "not getting back sooner". Temper your expectations a bit. Realize you're going to get more help if you post your quite well worded questions in a proper forum that will garner responses. I'll give you a tip as well. People come into this forum to look at pictures. If they like the pictures, they'll DEFINITELY stick around.
Not including a single picture is more than likely why you got only 2 responses. For cryin' out loud, you got almost FOUR HUNDRED VIEWS of that thread. It bears out my point that people WANTED to look, but not having something to look at, they probably quickly closed up your thread and toddled off. Separate your questions about your cab from your project announcement thread (so that your project announcement is filled with actual project progress and pictures) and put those questions in the main forum, or in one of the other forums if they apply. I learned this lesson myself, so don't feel bad, but don't think people are ignoring you. I think I've demonstrated that in fact, they AREN'T. Buck up little camper ;)

Aye-aye, Cap'n!
:)
I wasn't feeling neglected or ignored, really. I was more...disappointed.
I didn't really know what I was gettin' into in terms of the actual modification of the box and didn't really know how to package the request for assistance.
Thanks to your detailed response to this thread, DrewKaree, now I do. :)
As for not posting the pics in the first place...I didn't have em'. My wife had the digi-cam in the minivan o' many kids.
Also, I'll try to post questions in a more appropriate place from now on. I just didn't want to spam the board(s) with the same questions in 50 places.
I'm not done by a long shot, I just wanted the darned thing functional by the Soup-R Bow-uhl. :)
So now...on to phase two...the control panel o' much suffering!
...and thanks for the response. ;)

The process up til' this point is documented here:
http://rsmame.blogspot.com
It's been de-cluttered to allow access to all of the photos which clutter it all up. ;)
...if anyone is interested. :)

You are SASSY!
Yes. I didn't have the time to get the full-on custom control panel thing functional in time for my Seahawks to get beaten in the Super Bowl. :)
However, I did get stuff to dig in on the spinner hack just this morning. :)
In fact, I have an idea that I'm working toward that could net me both a trackball and spinner in one shot. Probably, I'll just hose it up...but it's worth a try. :)
...
Preliminary 3d idea of the base. Haven't actually added dimension or control locations yet...but I'm gettin' there. :)

As long as you're going to replace that with actual controls like from Happ like it said on your site, we won't flog you with wet noodles, but....;)
Pick up your parts from ponyboy to save money vs Happ.
Was the original CP bolted in there, or how exactly did you go about removing the wheel and whatnot? Also, what'd you do with the wheel? I'm sure there's a few guys around here wanting a wheel. Throw it in B/S/T if you've got enough posts. I think your reply will give you enough posts ;)

Sadly, the way the cabinet looks in the first before picture is the way I got it. I would loved to have gotten my hands on the steering setup. :)
It did come with the coin door(s)/mechs, marquee and appropriate mounting hardware, monitor glass and the original 'Rad Mobile' bezel. No steering control panel. I thought that the price I paid was pretty good, especially considering the thing is made out some pretty sturdy plywood.
The fella' I got the thing from was kind enough to throw in a couple of control panels with a few buttons each. I did note that both the joysticks on the two panels are leaf switch setups. I just haven't taken/had the time to look at them and determine in any further detail specifically how functional they are, what brand...and so on.
