I'm thinking of going with 3" Casters on my "Project Arcade". I figured this way I wouldn't have to place a piece of scrap wood under the 2" caster. My only fear is that it won't be recessed enough. Anybody out there tried this? Or have any thoughts?
Thank you in advance!

I used 3" casters on my "project arcade" and they came out perfect.

If your planning on keeping your cab on carpet, then 3'' rollers will probably be perfect. If your keeping it on wood, tile, or something similar, then it might be a little high, but I doubt anyone would notice. I used 2 1/2'' casters and they're not quite high enough, they do pretty much nothing on carpet and the bottom often scraps when its rolling on concrete/wood/tile. Since I don't move my cab, they work fine for me.

I'll second ChicagoDave's comment...not a single problem here either with the 3" casters.

Hey thanks guys! I plan to begin the actual construction this weekend.... ie Base and routing for T-Molding (this outa be interesting ???...) If time permits I will at least attatch one of the sides.
I wish that I could say things have been going smooth, but my Old Man the wood working expert. Decided to attempt a circlular saw on the front angle side of one of the side panels. Needless to say he was about an inch off to the inside of the line :o.. So I've spent every night this week patching and sanding. >:(
Thanks for the info guys!
PS.. I love your cab AtomSmasher! I hope you don't mind if I copy your CP??

Routing for the T-Molding is actually pretty easy. If you have the correct slot cutter bit and a router it will literally only take minutes. I thought this part would be hard, but it wasn't.
One mistake I did make was with the casters. I bought the rotating casters as opposed to the fixed casters. I did not leave enough clearance for them to rotate complete around and this pretty much stopped me from moving the cabinet backward freely. I fixed them, but I would suggest making sure you have enough clearance up front so you don't have to do the patch work like I did.

I used 3" casters on my "cab in progress" so that I would not have to use scraps of wood under them. I think that it will give it the best height overall for carpet or wood floors. I also used the fixed casters on the rear of the cab and swivel casters on the front so I can turn it into my office door. Works great.

Guys where did you guys buy your casters. The fixed ones and the swivel ones. And should I use the fixed or swivel. I was thinking about using fixed but need to know where to get them. Also going to be doing the 3 inch ones. You guys remember where you got them?

Okay guys I actually found some that I am going to go with. I am going to go with 4 of the non-swivel ones that they have in the project arcade cabniet. Here is a good link to some heavy duty casters!

I picked mine up at Menard's, back by the cabinet section. Four bucks a piece or so. I got two fixed casters and two locking ones.

I picked mine up at Home Depot.
