It does not seem like Speed Buggy was included in the recent MameV103 flood, so I guess it no longer is in Mame?
.. or am I crazy and it never was in Mame to begin with?

while we're on the subject...
what about SPEED BAGGER? I always thought that was more fun than speed buggy...

Check out Buggy Boy (buggyb1 - single screen OR buggyboy - 3 screens).

Maybe Speed Buggy is one of those discrete logic games they don't want in MAME?

Cool, I didn't even realise they were that far along with the emulation.

Nope, it is hard to emulate and has never been (working) in MAME.
I'm not sure that this is entirely accurate, but FWIW:

This is pretty much the only game left I want to see working in MAME...

Ahh but TX-1 is the same type of harware.. and IMOP a much funner, faster, and challenging game. Hopefully will be emulated correctly soon.

Never had the pleasure of that one :(. Would be pretty poor playing with the 3 screens squashed onto one though.

I loved buggy boy... it was super easy, but fun. You felt like you could do some pretty cool things right off the bat (without spending tons of cash getting good). It was right next to the sf2 game that I played at the closest arcade at one point... so you would play a game or two while waiting. Down right fun game, just not super challenging.

I think I was thinking of Speed Bug. (black n white)

The only dump of Speed Buggy/Buggy Boy that I know of is missing a sound ROM, but I'm not sure whether the rest of the emulation is doable or not, especially since it has the same nutsy quadruple-V30 hardware as Lock On.(distributed by Data East)
I donated a Lock-On board to MameDev last year.
Here's Philip's response, back in August of 2005:
Hi Joseph,
Picked up the Lock-On cage this weekend. It appears to be working fine (see attachment). With the aid of the actual game I should be able to get the MAME driver finished soon.
Once again, thank you for your generosity.
Regards,
Phil
Hopefully this working Lock-On board will put MAME one step closer to emulation (of Lock-On) and then hopefully of Speed Buggy.
I'm emailing Philip to see if there's any update.

Cool :) I don't think the unmamed page gets updated too often so I think it is behind...

Here's Phil's response:
Some friends of mine were asking about Lock-On, because the emulation is similar to a game they like: "Speed Buggy".
They share few similarities, unfortunately :/
Did you ever get the driver working?
Playable, but far from perfect. Comparing my MAME version to the actual PCB was somewhat depressing - it highlighted loads of of inaccuracies.
At least now, I'm at a stage where I almost understand how the video hardware works. I need to write some code to run on the PCB to investigate some minor issues.
Also, can you update the info for Lock-On Maws...
Done.

Phil
