Title: strange dreamcast controllers (hackable?)
Post by: Seven7 on February 07, 2006, 06:51:06 pm
Just wondering if anyone has seen these before and if they can be hacked for arcade controlls.  I've never seen these before, although it whouldn't surprise me if someone else had.  Btw, they look cheap, a website i found has them for $2.99 each.   Your thoughts?

Well, I had bad luck with mine (different brand as yours) because they didn't have a common ground.
For 2.99 it's worth the experiment I think ;)

Iam guessing yours was the astropad?  From what i can tell even if a pad dosen't have a common ground, its still hackable, just that it takes more time and wire.  I think ill wait for a few more opinions before makeing an order.

This was my post (and my pad).

It's a perfectly hackable stick, but then for DC use only, and I have a multi-machine setup in my cab so :(

just a note, they are not the same controller, still, your right.  Anyway, iam not doing this for a cab, but for arcade sticks.  Mvc2 and power stone 2 don't feel right without em.!

Stop researching and just buy a few..

Honestly, its worth 3 bucks just to rip them apart and check..

The astropad is hackable...  if you don't mind not having your L and R triggers, and a lack of a common ground.

And for what it's worth, the controller pictured is not an Astropad.

Easiest controllers to hack are the Sega ones. Thats what I used to do when I sold them. Just brush up on the soldering skills and get a nice thin iron tip and you should be good to go. Just make sure you get something pointy and sharp to scratch the contacts with and the connection should be good. If you want, I will send you a picture of mine when I get home later tonight for some ideas.

I got my hacked pads from HarumaN yesterday.  I hooked the first one up last night and it worked perfectly.  Thank you for the valuable and reasonably priced service!!
