Title: BYO Star Trek House = marital & financial disaster
Post by: JoyMonkey on February 07, 2006, 12:50:54 pm
We've all heard about the guy that turned his flat into something from Star Trek Voyager (here's just one of the threads about it (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=21943.0)). Well, he's back in the news.

Trek geeks with dreams of home-modding beware:

Uh oh.  I better not post any pictures of my kids rooms.  No financial or marital disaster here though.

I think that would be super cool for a hotel themed room....but not to live in 24/7.

It's simply not practical....but he did an amazing job.  :P

A Star Trek fan has gone bankrupt after spending £12,000 turning his home into the Starship Voyager.

He took out two huge loans and ran up debts of over £100,000 on 14 credit cards marketing his idea

It only cost him £12,000 to convert his house and then he spent £88,000+ "marketing his idea"?   I'd call that ridiculous, but I guess that's how a lot of small businesses start... and then fail.

Thanks. I'll check it out

Looks like one of those "fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there" places.

I'm ashamed to admit seeing it, but I'm pretty sure he was in Trekkies 2

First, I don't understand how a person can do that to an apartment. Or is that just a word they use for "condo" over there?

Second, when I first heard of this guy his place was for sale and getting crazy bids. Wha happen??

Yes, the terms are interchangeable in a lot of ways.  In many places the only difference at all is ownership status.  Physically a condo conversion and an apartment are the same.

I went to a convention last May. I saw things I never wanted to see. One woman had her stomach fat hanging from unner her shirt. I got pretty much the whole cast of TNG to sign a picture, but I'm not sure if $140 I paid  is enough to cover the physcological damage.

Nope, no paradox there:
