i just noticed after gathering all the required materials that this circuit http://dragonsden.emuunlim.com/arcaded/split.htm
is for an old 5 pin DIN, is there a reasonably simple way to swap the 5 pin DIN for a 6pin DIN(PS/2) connector?

The two connectors are signal compatible, but are physically in different arrangements. Look up the pinouts of each connector and you will see how to make one look like the other.
Both really use only 4 connections. Clock, Data, 5v, and Ground.

Stephen Hans has the pinouts for both circuits on his site - http://www.ionpool.net/arcade/mame/keyboard_hacks/tricks.html
(Took a while to find that, though).
