Post by: deadkenndys1105 on February 05, 2006, 08:39:24 pm
Im looking for button, a joystick and a trackball for a cabnet im building.  They would have to be clear almost glass like because im setting up LED lights around them to it looks like they glow. Thanks for your help.

Have you looked at all the solutions presented by members on this site and found them unacceptable?

Get them made custom.  Sounds like you are looking for something very specific that no one has ever done.

I've seen several companies offering translucent buttons and tracks. I saw one cab (sorry can't remember whose) that ran a small string of lights through a Tron joy to light it up. Not sure if this helps but its all I got.

Those are Wico 2" Light Blue Leafswitch buttons.  His are lit with two blue LEDs each.  He ordered them from this company:  http://www.wicothesource.com/new2/default.htm (http://www.wicothesource.com/new2/default.htm)

Wico is notorious for poor service, so you may want to seek another reseller like CentsibleAmusements:  http://www.centsibleamusements.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=412 (http://www.centsibleamusements.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=412)
The Wico buttons are not perfectly clear, they are tinted.  If you want non-tinted translucent buttons, then you should try www.fxbuttons.com (http://www.fxbuttons.com)

If you saw the Neon MAME cab, maybe you ought to have read the thread the pretty pictures were in.  I just took the time to check, and it says right there where he got them.

Or, you could just send him an email, so you don't have to spend the time reading.

And then, when he doesn't answer immediately, you can ask the forum to find out for you.

Kremmit - I fixed your reply - this forum really is overly helpful.

As far as Joysticks - RandyT sells the Versa-Balls with translucent ball tops (http://www.arcadepanels.com/gib/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=262) He has a picture of a clear, but I don't see where you can order one.  I don't know if they work with anything other than the 49-way stick, but you could PM him, and while you're waiting for a reply, you could search for the announcement thread about them, or maybe someone will post it here.

Ponyboy sells a translucent stick, but the clears are on order - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=41142.0 -  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=47143.0 - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=34978.0

Slikstik sells replacement handles in white translucent, but I think the only lighting option is the 7-color morphing, unless you mod the sticks - http://www.slikstik.com/detail.aspx?ID=115

The Slikstik replacement handles come in 7 colors plus the morphing.  They are a very nice product.  I haven't had any problems with  mine.

What I meant is I think the white translucents are only available in the morphing.  (Or are the solid color ones white when not illuminated?)

My bad - The solid color ones are frosted white when unlit - you really can find everything you want to know on here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=32648.0

These guys based in the uk do translucent buttons in most colours.

Gremlin Solutions (http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/)

You want to try slikstik (http://www.slikstik.com/) for your translucent joysticks and happ (http://www.happcontrols.com/) or ultimarc (http://www.ultimarc.com/) for your trackball.

Happ is your best bet since you can order the translucent ball in the colour of your choice.

In all cases you want to order the items in the translucent colour you want them as opposed to clear white with a coloured led.
