Title: Do I need to calibrate gun for "Crypt Killer" and "Zombie Raid"
Post by: unclet on February 05, 2006, 03:00:55 pm
I am using one ActLabs TV USB lightgun on my cabinet and can now (after installing Mame32v103) get Hogan's Alley, Duck Hunt, and other lightgun games to work.

I have not tried all lightgun games in Mame yet, but I happened to notice a couple games (Crypt Killer and Zombie Raid) started up but the calibration is completely off.   Where ever I shoot, it seems the crosshairs are just doing whateve rthey want (ie: no real association of where I am shooting and where the crosshairs are seen).

Are these games playable in Mame?  If so, what is the secret?

zombie raid plays perfectly (although I had been reporting it did not - my mistake). Hit F3 for service mode, select Gun Adjust, calibrate and it works great.

Looking into Cryptklr now....

Cryptklr: The gun is offset when you fire.

This is similar to the issue is Lethal Enforcers (1+2), and all the namcos2.c gun games.

They can all fixed by altering the mame source to set the initial starting position of the input port to the centre of the screen. I've got a build that only supports gun games that fixes this located here:

Sourcediff from 0.103 here:

(most if just stripping non-gun drivers)

example of difference in source here, at the bottom:

Silver:

I believe Service Mode is F2 .... not F3 ..... which you currently state one should press for Zombie Raid

Also .... sinec I use Mame32 .... is there a chance you would compile a Mame32 version of your mamegun.exe  ......

My young kids are use to Mame32 and they will not be able to understand command line Mame ....

Ah right - well you can always check which is which from the input menu I think....

Mame32 - I'll take a look. I've never used it let alone compiled it, but the changes in my build are very very basic so its probably not hard.

That would be a great help ..... thanks .... let me know if you have success......  I believe that Mame32 is the same thing as official mame but that it adds the GUI in there .....

I am not at home now to test this, but at your site, you indicate the OpWolf3 is similair to Zombie Raid.  Since you discovered how to get Zombie Raid working, then is OpWolf3 solved as well by using the same technique?

Hi,

sadly no. I had hoped the opwolf3 would be the same, but the source code for opwolf3 is sadly already "correct" in terms of the fix I have been doing. So there is something else that will need changing in opwolf3, not sure what it is yet but I am looking.

mame32 - sorry not had a chance to look yet. I tried to grab the source code but I've got to sign up to some fileserver (fileplanet) and wait in a queue to get it so will get round to it when I have some more time.

I am a member of fileplanet already.    I downloaded the self-extracting source code file (Mamem32b.v104) for you so you could try to make it into a "mame32gun.zip" file ... perhaps.

The file is just slightly over the 512K limit for posting it here, so if you send me an email, then I will know your email address and can reply to it with the source code.

If you prefer to register with fileplanet and get it yourself, then no problem either.

These changes would be great ....
