Title: Xbox - Auto Power On?
Post by: myrmidon on February 03, 2006, 02:30:14 pm
Hi There,

I have a question for those of you that have installed XBoxes into arcade cabinets. Do any of you have a solution to get the XBox to auto-power-on when it gets 110v applied to its power supply?

The '2nd best' solution is to mount a 'momentary switch' somewhere inside the cabinet, and wire it in parallel to the xbox power switch. However, this is still a bit troublesome, because then I have to switch on the cabinet, and then switch on the xbox.

I've read on some forums that one can simply short out the power switch, so that it is the same as 'always pressed'. Is that the way to go?

Regards
Olaf

For my box, I spliced into the power switch wires on the inside of my box.  I then drilled a hole in the case and have a detachable clip hookup thingie allowing me to disconnect the xbox with my external "on/off" switch (which is a regular arcade button), allowing the original power button to work properly in addition to having an external switch on my cabinet.  The only drawback is that the xbox is being "worked on" outside of the cab.  =)

I also have my xbox as my main line on a smartstrip.  That way my TV, marquee light, etc. all power up/down when I turn on/off my xbox.  Here's a link if you've not heard of a smartstrip before.  It's quite handy.

I can take some pictures next week if you'd like, I'll be opening up the xbox to splice in an additional player 1 outlet -- so I can have my control panel and a wireless controller attached to p1 at the same time.  (for maintenance, but it would be fun to screw with someone when they were playing a game, heh)

Anyhow.  Best of luck.

I know this is bumping an old thread, but Google doesn't care about when it was posted.

To auto power on an Xbox1, peel the face plate off your box so you can get to the power/eject buttons' PCB. On the back of the power switch there's 2 solder points, just connect these and the Xbox will always boot on power restore.
